My credit card number was stolen

Well it's obvious here that the OP at least monitors his card usage with the banking institution he has. That being said, credit cards are always vulnerable to anyone savvy enough to garner the account number and then use it fraudulently. Good on you for at least that and I am guessing that your banking institution issued a new charge card and then removed the fraudulent transactions. But as the saying goes here, let the buyer, and in this case the user, be aware. Now does your card have a "chip"?? If not hen get your banking institution to give you a card with one. If they won't then I would dump them and go elsewhere. As for cash is king? You bet it is but now days, cash is hardly ever used and cards are. A definite confusing situation to say the least. Then one final item to consider here...What kind of establishment to you use your card at. Is it reputable or just a fly by night operation? That says a lot here too!!! cr8crshr/Bill:usflag::usflag::usflag:

You know who insists on using cash? People that can’t get credit.
Trust me, I have more credit then I know what to do with. I just live on the theory that cash is king, seems this board has a problem with that. Just don't tell me your problems!

I got takin for 1365.00 on ebay two weeks ago . That was a **** show to deal with. Wont be seeing that money back anytime in the future. Ebay washed there hands of it as well as paypal. My problem to fix.
Yep that is why I refuse to do pay-pal. They got me for a little over 1400 a few years back. Never seen that money again.

I totally disagree here!!! Yes if they have shitty credit score or whatever that denies them a card. But you know what? I always carry a few 100 in cash and use it for a lot of purchases. And I only use the card when absolutely necessary and pay for that charge upon receipt of my bill and sometimes the next day when I go online and check my balance. But cash is always king and when and if the grid goes down and all this convenience of using a card to pay for things will not work because of the lack of online and electronic handling of these transactions, then no merchant in their right mind is not and will not accept "CASH." You might want to take that into consideration when making an assumed statement such as you have here. No disrespect here mind you...Just purely an observation is all...cr8crshr/Bill:usflag::usflag::usflag:

WWWOOOWWW!!! I have never had a problem with either of those two concerns. Care to elaborate as to what transpired. Or if it is too personal then so be it but for the most part, Pay Pal and Ebay for me has been no problems and hassle free...cr8crshr/Bill:usflag::usflag::usflag:

People who use cash are too smart to use a credit card for every damn little puchase, and pay huge interest rates and late fees to the bank. I saw someone try to buy a candy bar with her credit card, ONE candy bar ( Fat broad needed a candy bar like another hole in her head). She cried when her card was rejected, cause she didn't have enough cash to buy her candy bar.. I'm sure she has excellent credit. . There are a lot of people who don't like giving money to banks. That's one of the reasons they HAVE money.

Nope same thing here ebay and pay-pal (which is an ebay company) will leave you hanging if it is a larger amount.
Pay Pal is actually no longer a part of Ebay but has spun off on their own now and are independent of them. Happened a year or 2 ago...cr8crshr/Bill:usflag::usflag::usflag:

Yeah, one fat lady buying a candy bar with her card makes everyone the same. Uh huh. Nice try.
Here’s a piece of news for ya: if you pay off your credit card balance in full you don’t pay ANY interest. THAT is what smart people do. You know, the ones with money.

Wondering how can that happen? Unless you made a deal outside of Ebay?

nope. Someone compromised a sellers account They had immediate payment so once I was commited Not knowing I had to follow through with the purchase. As soon as I payed. I had a refund from the same purchase. It wasnt 10 minutes later then ebay nixed the compromised sale , it went blank. Paypal was called by me right away. They could not do anything cause a refund was in waiting. Well a week went by. And I got a message from paypal the refund did not go through. And nothing could be done. Every thing was through the proper channels on my end. Some had a way of beating the system. So. Im not sure what lessons are learned here. Stay away from those two sites the automated to personal help was nil.

Some day soon, the snow will melt and the sun will come out....and these problems will go away.

I must admit that it's nice to have a fat bank account so you don't have to worry about these things. at least that's what my Father taught me at a early age. Maybe that's why I'm a better money manager than a lot of others in the world! And my Dad was a stingy person when it came to money, liked to see it come in, but hated to see it go out.

You missed my point. There are lots of people out there with lots of credit, and no money. Why do you think there are companies out there to get people out of credit card debt? (I say, bring back debtors prison!) Do you really think someone without a dollar in their pockets pays off their credit card bill each month?
When I do have to use a credit card, which is seldom, by choice!, I go to the bank to pay it off, I don't even wait for a statement. And STILL, they try to stick me with late fees.

Credit cards getting hacked is a now common occurrence. CC companies make so much money I doubt they care, just pass it on to the consumer one way or another
Having said that, the more you link your cards to the internet id say the more chance fraud can happen.
We go over every charge on the few cards we use, you just have to be diligent.
We also have zero balances.
While I agree cash is king, its impossible not to use credit cards unless you never travel, never buy on line.
I recently bought concert tickets for Valentine's Day and bought two more for another show in March. How do I pay cash for them? Its almost impossible, in fact if you dont go to the theater in person, it is impossible and even then im not sure.
As far as in business establishment hacking, I dont know, its possible im sure. Places like restaurant's, myself I like to pay cash.
Ive seen people charge under ten dollars, in fact hardly carry any cash, that I cant do, I have to have money in my pocket
However things like food shopping/cloth's, bigger items we use Discover. Costco we use there card.
Again its great if you can pay them off and maintain zero balance, often though thats not possible for some.

That’s true, and I’m not trolling you, but the best way to get back at the credit card companies is to not let them make money off of you. Pay off the balance, they don’t make money off of your interest, just the percentage that they charge the business. Which is fair enough.
But also, if a person has the money to pay for their purchases in cash they can pay off their credit card balance with that money and not pay interest. And get free trips and stuff off the points they accumulate.

I use Discover card. They do not charge you for fraudulent purchases. I had someone use my car number at the Cosmepolitan in Vegas once for $5600 in one night before! They took care of that and two other times it was stolen.
The credit card companies wipe the charge off your account and turn around and deduct that amount from the merchant. You get your issue resolved, the thief gets what he wants and the merchant gets screwed. The credit card companies don’t “cover” anything.

Well I don’t get stuck with the bill. It’s the way of the world in 2020. If you buy cash everything and wear a tinfoil hat and think someone is always watching you’ll miss out on a lot. It sucks they get the shaft, but do you really think the merchant in todays society cares about us most of the time anyway. These big companies would screw ya in a second if they had the chance.

I don’t have to worry. I just got a letter that a long lost relative that moved to Canada 30 years ago just passed away and left me 9.6 million dollars. I just need to give them my bank information and they will transfer it!
I have been lucky my Cabela’s card is monitored very well and I pay the balance monthly. I can’t operate my business without a card, it’s the only way my parent company takes payment
