Steering Column Help!

Changing my 72 Charger from a column shift to a floor shift. Removed the setup from a donor car, disassembled and cleaned and ready to put back together. Question: Should there be an inner tube or shaft around the actual steel shaft? I inspected the column shift and it had the inner tube, but that was for actually shifting the car. Looked at my 68 ,but that's totally different. HELP!!View attachment 930605

This is my interior of my 72 Plymouth AFTER i converted it from column shift to floor shift. I have posted other things and have been treated badly. Some very bad disagreements as if I do not know what I am saying. The second picture is how my car looked before i started. I hope you think it looks pretty good for someone that knows nothing. If you need help i am ready to talk.

The ’72 floor shift column does not use a shift tube, it is omitted. The lower bushing is replaced with a seal and seal retainer.

1972 Floor Shift Column (Plymouth)

The Steering Column used on Valiant, Barracuda, and Satellite models with a floor mounted gearshift is basically the same as previously described Standard Columns and Service procedures are identical except as described below. After Lock Housing is removed (Fig. 14 and 17) it will be seen there is no shift tube or set screw in this shift housing. Also there is no spring washer between the shift housing and column jacket as shown in (Fig. 23). Instead this shift housing has a spring attached between it and the column jacket which keeps the housing rotated counterclockwise against a rubber bumper (Fig. 35). This spring and rubber bumper are easily removed or replaced with the fingers.

Looks like the shift tube (column lock) was omitted for the Slap Stick shifter in 71 B-body.

Total break down of the steering column in my 68 Charger RT floor shift. I don't know why mine has all the tubes in it and yours doesn't, maybe mine was an earlier build.. just strange.
