Is there supposed to be a ground wire attached to the Tachometer in a 66 with the sender in the dash?

Look at the wiring diagram to see the answer. Then tell us so we know too. I don’t have a 1966 manual. 1966 is the last year to use that sender and the tach has 3 wires. 1967 tach has 4 wires.

The tach sending unit ground is the bracket attached to the dash frame. The sending unit will ground to the bracket with the two mounting screws attaching the sending unit to the bracket.

Thanks,

Mark

Thanks guys, I just wondered why there was a ground terminal on the tach.

Tagging on to this thread about Tachs. Looking for ideas on where to go next. See the photo of backside of tach, only one other terminal on left (obstructed) with a yellow wire on it. Also, I do not have a sardine can behind the glove box. Looks like it has all been taken out at some point, I could use some suggestions.

This picture is very helpful. See mine below. Thanks again.

The sending unit for the console-mounted tach in my '64 Polara is the same as the pictured one, and attaches to the underside of the fibreglass console. On mine, I have to use a ground wire to the fourth terminal.

There is no sardine can, anyone have a spare?

Canadian Service Manual 65-66. I think #4733 has a bit of a section about the 66 Charger. It shows the tach sending unit mounted on the foreword console bracket. I have never seen that on any of the 66’s we had. Still have 2 66’s that have consoles and dashes in them. One has after market gauges, so suspect original has problems.
Also that is the first notification I have seen about 6 way manual seat adjustments.

Thanks, looks like mine is just gone, screwholes for the bracket are there.

Here's a question, see the picture and would you say the circled connector is for the tach circuit board?
