Whats an RB 440?

Mopar 350,361,383, and 400 were all "B" engines, or low deck. 413,426, and 440 were all "RB" meaning raised "B" engines, due to the taller blocks, requiring a different intake and distributor.

Thanks so the intakes are not compatible from a 383 to 440 and the 440 requires a “RB” intake?

B-designated as big block.
RB-designated as big block raised deck.

"B" engine (361, 383) intake manifolds will not fit "RB" engines like the 413, 426, and 440. Because the deck height of the block is raised on the RB engines the distance between the intake manifold mating surfaces on the heads is farther apart. You will have to use an intake made for the "B" engines for a 383. A 440 intake will not fit. That is my understanding FWIW

If you measure across the block, the B should be about 7-3/4" and the RB should be about 8-3/4".

Excellent Answer Builder guy. To the point. Thanks for sharing that. Really Boy , and Real Big really helpful

A = poly 318 And probably a few others
LA = 273/318/340/360
B = 350/361/383/400
RB = 383/413/426/440

My 70 r/t came with a RB engine. I replaced it with a 75 motor home block. I used all the intake and exhaust manifolds no problem. I think all the 440 blocks are the same. The crank is longer Stroke on RB blocks?

Your motor home replacement had to be a RB block not a B block or else the intake would not fit. Now to the longer crank. Thats a good one.

RB 383 was 1 year only, 1958.

A 325 is a poly engine, and a hemi version, however I've never heard of it described as an A engine, but I never looked into it.
