They lost me when they claimed the electric is more efficient then the diesel.
That statement skips so many steps in the process it is laughable.
"Electric motors can last 100 years"
Sorry no. And a situation where they could last that long is similar to any machinery, with maint. and replacement of wear items. But you could do the same with ICE.
There has been patents for a diesel/electric semi truck that functions like a locomotive for decades. Someone finally built a hybrid here though, which is neat.
Hybrids are a response to EV "green" ideology, initially, and now they have become a response to the EV mandates as some type of middle ground people are scrambling to find because a pure EV is years and years off for viability.
Neither situation is really ideal. I am glad people are looking into the tech, how else will they figure it out? But there is also more tech for ICE being developed, and tech that exists but for whatever reason was not implemented(money I am sure) that should also continue development. This entire situation where we have to go all in on EV, or not, hurts everything. As both technologies develop, it is the hybrids that can take advantage of both.
Personally, there should be room for both and markets and consumers should decide.
