There are fishing places in the Rocky Mountains where they give a rod and reel and you go to the water's edge drop in your line a bait and hundreds of Rainbow Trout all come to the surface fighting for the bait and hook. Then when you reel in your fish they give you a frozen trout of similar size and release the fish you caught.

I'm glad you found a place. You'll have to update this thread with a rating of the place after you go. This past weekend I was in Mesick Michigan with a couple of buddies, we fished a place called Hodenpyl Dam Pond, here's a topo map, i-Boating : Free Marine Navigation Charts & Fishing Maps The fishing was pretty good with a lot of potential to be better. I'll spare the details, but I'll just say most of the reasons it could have been better were human error.

From what I can tell, the only launch on the lake was at Northern Exposure Campground. We stayed at my buddy's cabin which was about 10 minutes away, so I can't tell you much about the campground other than it has RV camping, tent camping I think, and they have 7 cabins that you can rent. It appeared to be clean and pretty well kept. I think they have bands that play there in the summer and other things to do. Here's a link to the campground https://northernexposureinc.com/

The lake is close to 2,000 acres. Fish species include Pike, Walleye, Perch, Largemouth, Smallmouth, Rock bass, Crappie, Bluegill, Catfish, I'm not sure of species, and there's probably other species worth fishing for. Between the three of us, we caught Largemouth, Smallmouth, and 1 Pike, all decent fish. One of my buddies let 2 Largemouth in the 5 lbs. range spit the hook boatside, but he did manage to bring one in the boat that was in that same range. He's also the one that brought the Pike into the boat, it was about 24", but he forgot to measure it before releasing it. Don't smoke dope while you're fishing, it makes you forget to do things like this, and it makes you have terrible boat control, at least I hope that's his excuse.

Anyway, it's a little past your 4-hour time/distance limit, my buddy with the cabin says it takes him 5 hours even to get there from Streamwood, but it may be worth checking out for another trip. From what I hear there's some really big fish in there. If none of the cabins are available, maybe you could rent an RV, drive up, and stay in the RV park. I don't know of any boat rental places, but maybe you could do some research into that.

Maybe one of the Michiganders on this board can give you, and anyone else that may be interested, some more information on this place.
