Herb "Mr 4 Speed" McCandless has Prostate Cancer

My older brother had his removed with the da Vinci robot, same day surgery. Completely recovered from it. I'm wondering why they waited six months before doing anything.

too bad best wishes, was just down at his kids museum (Mike) a few months ago

Lots of medical methods these days when it comes to prostate cancer.
I was diagnosed with prostate cancer some years in the past now, and in my case i did the radiation seed implants for my treatment.
Guess it's worked, as I'm still here.

By same day do you mean he was home the same day?

Is that the one where they put in little gold targets? If so a family member had that. I had a scare with all of that but after a tense few months I show as clear but the bugger is enlarged.

My buddy over here had a big scare last year - scored 4/10 on the seriousness scale. Enough to make him need regular checkups.

He was told that prostate removal was an option..... but he wouldn't ever drive stick again.

Prayers for his recovery.
I ended up with no cancer thank God.
2 biopsy, then the turp procedure , That really helped me.
Both of my brothers have had prostate cancer along with robot style removel.

Ya, i guess we could call them the "gold nuggets" lol
Never did ask how many they put in me. Dunno.
Here's a bit of information on the treatment type that i had.

I never understood the waiting either. I mean it’s cancer , it spreads , sometimes fast.

In my case I think part of my wait was because my Dr was a joke, and this was pandemic times. But first the general practice Dr sends me to get a semen analysis which took over a month for them to get me in for that (there may be a joke there). Then the dork realizes that doesn't tell him much and he refers me to a urologist, so there is a wait for that,
Urologist also says the semen analysis was useless and they just took my money since that lab for whatever reason didn't take ins. So he wants an MRI, which there was a wait for as well, and then my ins didn't want to pay for that because their internal experts believe I only need a sonogram. So MRI ended up being out of pocket, whole ordeal took months to get a cancer free diagnosis. But since that is what killed my father it was a very stressful bunch of months, on top of that at the same time a family member did test positive and had the gold nugget procedure, and another family member had a different kind of cancer and will never be 100% due to the nature of the surgery (all facial/sinus stuff)
But since there are some minor issues besides bloodwork I see the urologist once a year, I just did those labs a couple of weeks ago and my PSA level is lower than the previous year.

Yeah. I understand your situation with the doctor. They are not all good ones And probably equally important is the facility for the surgery. I had a kidney removed due to cancer during the pandemic. Surgery was at Vanderbilt hospital in Nashville. I felt lucky to be near a top of the line hospital.

My brother had fallen off a ladder and hurt his back. He went in for a CT scan and the tech saw something in the background. Went in again for a closer look and saw a tumor on his prostate. Shortly after that they removed it. That was at least twenty years ago. He's still doing fine.

Remember; 50% of doctors finished in the bottom half of their class. That may be why their business is called a "practice".

Did the robot prostate thing a few years ago too. Spent 33 years running a foundry, "Doctors bury their mistakes, I melt mine."

The ones at the top of the food chain find niche areas of practice that charge cash, and don’t accept insurance. We get to deal with the rest.

What is the latest, "We all are going to Die"?

My PSA is 1.3, not sure how much comfort is in that number.

I have read getting PSA tests after 70 is no longer suggested as most cancers are slow and the patient has a better chance succumbing first to something else.
I don't buy that thinking, I want to know. I get a test any chance offered.
2 years ago it was 1.1.

Good Luck Herb.
