roadblock

Hi, have been working on what seems to be a common issue, fuel gauge reading incorrectly. My gauge would not read more than a little over half full when tank was full. Installed new tank S.S. and sending unit. New sending unit was reading correctly before I installed it. Also installed new solid state voltage limiter. After all this and performing all the tests recommended. Last I removed wire from sending unit to check. With ignition on voltage to sender was pulsing between 0 volts and approximately 3.8 volts which seemed a little low. Reconnected and checked voltage on both sides of fuel gauge. Same result. Finally remembered reading a thread where someone said to loosen nuts on fuel gauge and retighten to get better connection. I disconnected ground on battery removed driver side bucket seat for easier access. When I reached nuts I could spin one by hand. After tightening gauge works fine.
