Friends,

I am having a terrible time locating a heater case for my dad's 66 Coronet 500. It is factory heat only, non-AC. I'm trying not to go Vintage Air if it can be avoided. I have looked at three now that have all stated they would fit, but do not. The cases I have looked at have all ended up fitting 68's. The cases are longer, they have an "L-shaped cutaway", and the heater core and blower motor are reversed in position in the case. They do not fit the 66 as stated. Anyone know of any odd variances in this model year or body style? I have a copy of the original 1966 Chrysler service manual, but the HVAC chapter just doesn't give much info for the heat only option. I need a case!

Far as I know 66-70 non a/c b-bodies used the same housing. Post some pictures as to what you have and what you are looking at. Make sure your car is not a 65.

You are not that far from me. I assume you know Jeff Russell?

I should have more than one 67 on the shelf both AC and non-AC. I would assume 66 and 67 would be the same. I can see if I can find them in the parts book to see if they are the same. You are more than welcome to come over at take a look at them and see if they are what you need. I might have a 69 on the shelf to compare against - not sure.

I checked the part numbers. 66 is different than 67 but that does not mean they are not the same. Hard to tell from the pics in the parts book but they look the same.

Your part number is 2607 277

The differences are mostly how / where the cable brackets are mounted. And have a different pt number cast int he case

But the boxes themselves will physically interchange 1966-70 B body non air
* 1970 heater cores ( the core itself ) are NOT interchangeable with earlier cars due to heater hose size

Are you trying to put a non ac box in where an AC box was removed . If so, Thats not gonna work
Interesting. Here's my issue: my dad swears this was equipped with AC originally. I have never know it to have AC. It currently has an instrument panel bezel that only has heater controls. He's slept a few times since his younger days, and cant remember the whole story about that bezel. He's thinking that he replaced it with one from another car. I have tried tracing the wiring harness. It's spaghetti, so I'm still working. What is the physical fitment issue between AC equipped, and non-AC for the 66?

Jeff, is this is you, yes, we know each other. I will pop in and look at the ones you have.

Show us a picture of the firewall from the engine compartment. That will tell us.

These are 67 Coronets. First one is AC second is no AC.

Picture of the firewall will tell the story. They are vastly different in number of holes and how the box itself mounts

Non AC boxes use 3 nuts to secure it. AC boxes use 5

Like said, they will not interchange without a whole lot of work on the firewall

Well, 65CopCar, I believe you have helped solve my puzzle. And verified Dad’s thought. This appears to be a match for the AC equipped Coronet. In all his years of swapping parts, it looks like he used a Heater-only Dash panel. Jeff is very local to me. I am going to check his part stock. If he doesn’t have one, I would like to see what you have!

Just a thought; the a/c under those dashes is a big cluster****. If you don't need the ac, abort that idea and put a regular heater in.

This is coming from a guy where A/C is rare in these cars

Bro, you have no idea how welcome this info was today. Dealing with conflicting stories from this card past, and trying to make sense of what’s on it has been more than a headache. Thanks SO much!

Yup. You have AC. I do have an extra AC box but I need to keep it. I should of kept the ones from the cars I parted out!. But at least you know what you have now.

IMO, Go with aftermkt AC and be done with it

Trying to peacemeal an original system together will take years and lots of money
