I have a few 3rd members in the stash and may look to sell some. It has been awhile since I have sold these things.
Currently I have a 3.55 chunk I pulled from a 1971 B-100 Dodge van, slant six 3 speed. It is an open differential that looks excellent.

The guts are clean and tight. I will scrub the outside before listing it for sale. I don't know what a '489 3.55 one legger is worth.
$300 ? $350 ? More?

Sounds low to me.

I'd buy that today for that price, but shipping.....

Why don't you snag a LSD. Ya don't have to bother the pinion an resetting the backlash is easy peasy.....just check what it is now and put it back. If you don't have a dial indicator, you can use a feeler gauge. A dial indicator is much easier though.

I've owned and operated a drive line shop for over 33 years. If that were on my shelf, I'd be selling it for $350-$400 in our area given todays market. Easily double that if it had a Sure-Grip. Hope this helps!

Scrap?? I've picked bunches of open 3rd members from the yards when they were plentiful and installed a SG in them.....

costs more to box and ship than what it's worth imo..... I have stuff like that here, no body wants it

usable bolt in unit with a sure grip? 750 ish

They weren't cheap to ship when the rears were cheap lol

I think somebody would buy it locally for 250-300 because of the 3:55 gears, I recently bought an open diff 3:23/742 chunk for $150.

IMO the 3.55 r&p has some value. 3.23 and 4.10 are $100 max at a swap meet from my experience but 3.55 is more rare. If the case is good and not full of 50 yrs of road grime it's worth something vs refurbishing a nasty one. If the bearings and races are good and you really only need to put a SG in it, then maybe it is worth $300-350.

Sorry, thought it was SG.

I agree on 300-ish, then.

You can get a new 3.55 R&P for 300.

I have a 3.23 3rd member with a clutch SG that is as loose as your buddy’s sister. I guess I could put new clutches in it and swap it all together.

( I don’t actually know your buddy’s sister)

I married my buddy's sister.

...and she ain't loose.

20 years next year.

My "buddy" OTOH has turned out to be a total DICK.
