Driving to my 52 year high school reunion in Salinas, CA (where this 1992 Jeep Cherokee XJ I am driving was first sold). Leaving from La Paz, BCS, Mexico this morning with 235,373 miles on the odometer. Just arrived tonight at Guerrero Negro, BCS, Mexico with 235, 876 miles on odometer. Doing the math, 503 miles divided by 25.15 gallons of gasoline equals EXACTLY 20 mpg! Still have about 1,000 miles ahead of me. On the way back I plan on stopping by TTI Exhaust Systems in Corona, CA to pick up a pair of head pipes to accommodate a pair of factory high-performance 340 exhaust manifolds for our '72 Satellite Sebring Plus.

A safe and enjoyable trip. But the question remains... when you confront the gorgeous hottie in your graduating class, the one that turned you down for a date, and she now makes Rosie O'Donnell look appealing... what will your first words to her be ?

Trip report with pics. Watch out for Cartel check points

I did that at my 50th reunion. Ran into Sue, a hottie from HS “Sue,is that you in there”

Update: Drove another 1,472 miles (237,348 - 235,876) with 76.439 gallons of regular fuel which averages out to 19.25 mpg. On different segments of the highway mileage varied between a low of 15.76 mpg to high 21.8 mpg. Some Mexican military personal and police officers on the way seemed attracted to the Jeep, several asking what year it was and kinda behaving as if they wished it belonged to them.

The day before the reunion I had lunch with an ex-girlfriend (Melissa) who attended a different school. The poor thing was ill a couple of years ago (tumor) and lost a lot of weight that she never gained back (now looks to be about 95 pounds). Did not measure up appearance wise, but we hit off well just like old times.

At the reunion (for classes 1972-1978) the most popular/attractive girl in our class of '73 (Margie) came over to me at the reunion and she (surprisingly) looked super good. I thing she gave me a brief hug, but I was so busy looking at her maybe that is now a false memory.

Now I'm up in Chico, CA visiting an old community college buddy from our community college Auto Technology classes (circa 1973-1975) who is a Chevrolet fan and currently has a dental practice.

As a side note: About a year ago I drove my unrestored '65 Plymouth Valiant Signet convertible from La Paz back to the USA to store at my brother's home in Valley Springs, CA. (about 1,500 miles) So it has been parked outside with a car cover on it since last November. With just a battery charge and a couple of squirts of SeaFoam down the carb it fired right up again. It was listed on EBay the past six days at no reserve and with a starting bid set at only $1,000.00. Ended the sale with zero bids and no sale! Weird.

Trip Summary:

Did not need to add even one drop of oil or antifreeze to the motor or transmission; no flat tires; and thanks to new aluminum radiator motor ran cooler than normal. Total mileage driven 3,840 miles on 194 gallons of gasoline at average price of $4.89 per gallon and overall gas mileage 19.7 miles per gallon. Total paid for gasoline $951.30 USD

Vehicle squatting somewhat because I brought back with me a 340 short block (now a 305 de-stroked 340) and a pair of 340 J cylinder heads.

P.S. Just found out while I was away my spouse got a flat tire just driving around town in her 2001 Jeep Cherokee (lol).
