Finally reassembling the 440 wagon. I had the dash harness out as well as the instrument binnacle. I had removed this without removing the steering wheel years ago and don't remember which order I dismantled it in. Do you attach the harness switch connectors and lamps to the binnacle first then feed it into the space by the steering wheel support and locate the harness in its clips ... or is there a way to have the harness in place and connect the switches and lights to the instrument cluster with it just a little out from the dash? Anyone done a '63 Dodge instrument panel recently?

'62 isn't much different if any. I would think you would want everything in place then hook up the cluster. I never had the wiring harness completely removed but have had the cluster out several times.

Great shot ... just what I needed. I think the steering wheel has to go ... thanks!

Kid, easier to drop steering column or pull steering wheel? You had enough clearance without dropping the wheel?

Thank you sir, working on my dash lights.

Don't want to hijack the string but we are all working on same things here! LOL. Does anyone have a photo of the backside of the fuse block wherre the orange wire for the instrument panel lights attaches? Does it have a plug? I know it is a single blade orange out. Where does this wire go and then branch out to the individual lights? Drivers side kick panel?

Thanks much and in advance,

Jeff

I've only pulled the steering wheel. I'll tape up the part of the column to keep it from getting scratched up. Loosening the column would give you a little more room.

The orange wire on the back of the fuse block goes into the harness that goes up to the instrument cluster. Somewhere in this harness the orange wire is split into five smaller guage orange wires that are your instrument lights.

Thank you much Kid, you are the best source of info! One last question if you dont mind. Does your dimmer switch for the dome light have a haed "click" into position or just the soft roll untill it comes on? I have vehicles with both? Thought it was wierd.

Thank you again and much!

Jeff

And finally, does anyone know where the Orange wire coming off of the fuse block splits into the five oranges that go to the bulbs?

Thank you again,

Jeff

If I turn the headlight switch all the way to the left it does click into position to turn on the overhead interior light.

Thank you again,

The orange wire splits off to the five smaller guage orange wires inside the wiring harness. It's wrapped up inside the harness. Only way to see this would be to unwrap the harness to expose all the wires.

Here's a shot of the wiring diagram from the FSM. (E2) is the orange wire coming from the fuse block. Then all of the instrument lights go from there. There's no block or terminal.
