My new stock stroke 400 build

Trust you to bust my balls Don! I had to replace the old group 24 battery which had no reserve. My buddy with the parts store sold me this battery which he said was the one with the most CCA. I think the original application is some kind of Ford product. It is quite a bit longer and a bit wider than the old battery, but actually about an inch shorter. I had to rebend the retaining ears on the hold down and yes I will have to shorten the J bolts.
I'm here most days...

I took the Charger out for an extended drive today. I got a chance to nail it from a dead stop. When I tried with the 361 it would stall dead. This time not only did it not stall, but I actually spun the tire (2.94 open rear end). It pulled strongly but shifted early at about 4000 rpm. It takes a while to wind out with those gears. I have a tach fix on the way, and then I will be able to safely wind it a little tighter. Overall I am pleased with how the new combination (engine, trans, converter) acts. As I mentioned before I love the new street manners. I don't spend a lot of time at full throttle anyway. I will try and get to the drag strip soon just for my own satisfaction. There may be a switch to a 3.23 sure grip over the winter if I can find one for a reasonable price.

I believe I found the problem with the rad, obviously user error when I was wrestling the fan into place. I am going to find something tomorrow to patch it temporarily and add some leak stop. After this weekend show I will pull it out and have it repaired or recored.

I think my father used pepper back in the old days. Apparently it worked.

The epoxy repair is holding up well, but I have already arranged to have a high density core installed this winter. I will add a transmission cooler at the same time.

I have put about 100 miles on the car since I checked the plugs the last time. The number 8 cylinder was wet, and that concerned me because this is a fresh engine. I cleaned them up and put them back in. Today I pulled the number 8 plug and it was nice and clean.

I got the transmission cooler installed today. I had several ideas of where it could go, but once I actually tried, it didn't fit. I couldn't put it on the driver's side because the hood safety catch was in the way. I ended up placing it on the passenger side, and it is right behind the grill in the airstream, and has about an inch clearance on the A/C condenser. I ended up having to remove the sway bar in order to cut and flare the transmission lines. The hoses fit through the lower bumper pan and tucked up nicely. It took me all day, but I am pleased with the result. Now I hope it helps.

While I had the grill out I loosened the passenger side motor bracket and adjusted the passenger side headlight pod. It lines up better now, so we'll see if it works better.

Good news and bad news. The transmission cooler is working, but the car still overheated. Back to the drawing board.

Have you considered a 'lunch box' (posi) unit? I love the highway gears and being able to run 80 or better (yes, Texas has some highways with 80 as the limit lol). Look into them. Some don't like them because they 'click' on turns but that never bothered me. Imo, the Suregrips are better but are pricey and it seems the alternative isn't bad at all....unless you don't like the clicking sound which isn't loud. Most don't notice it with loud exhaust or stereo systems.

I had a Detroit locker in my previous car, so that wouldn't bother me. I do like the cruising rpm with the 2.94's, but I feel like they are not doing the new combination justice. I haven't found any other gears yet, so it's kind of a moot point.

It's only supposed to be a 2200 Kim, but it feels looser than that. My factory tach is not that accurate, so I haven't actually tried a stall test.
I routed the cooler lines through the external cooler first and then back into the rad in order to try and remove any excess heat it generates before it has a chance to heat up the coolant.

Why not just drive it around in 2nd gear and see if it runs cooler?

It won't hurt anything.
You can still go 90mph and it will help break in the engine.
