Is there any quality difference between the 2? I'm not in a rush, so trying to decide if I should base it purely on pricing or once considered better than the other.

70 Charger SE w/Tan Interior (buckets will be leather trimmed).

Thanks
Ross

My take is Legendary for the popular stuff 66-74 and SMS for the early cars and wagons, 4-doors, C bodies, ect.

Never had an issue with the Legendary interiors I have ordered.

My info is well dated, Legendary did the seats and door panels on my '63 all correct and still holding today, other than sun-faded having a vert. Back before there was long waits; but even then I think it took 3 or so months.

If you’re going to restore to original I would consider SMS. If not, probably Legendary. I did not go original and ordered Legendary - very happy with it.

Updating my own thread. I ordered the seat upholstery through Legendary, and glad I did. I received it this spring and finished my seats.

On the other hand, I ordered Door Panels from SMS, and I regret it.
,
The shortened version (many days/emails removed).
- Ordered on 12/23/23 (prices were going up in the new year)
- Emailed late May to get an ETA (just curious, not pushing) and they told me they needed the old door panels as a pattern. It was the first I heard of it, so I asked them to cancel since I wasn't willing to do that. They refused and said "she checked with the supervisor, and they don't need the panels". I emailed 3-4 more times over the next 2 days demanding they cancel the order, they simply refused and said they would push them to get them done on my timeline (they never asked when I needed them, and I never gave them a time).
- Emailed 1x a month to check on ETA - either someone was on vacation or they needed to check with supervisor
- Called them late August and was told they were still looking for a pattern, so didn't have an ETA. Again, I demanded they cancel, and she finally agreed 8/20/25
- I've asked for status on refund, called again, and was told it was cancelled and she sent a message to the dept that does refunds
- Emailed them again this morning and told them I was filing a BBB complaint - which I've done
- Also guessed at owner's and general manager's email addresses and sent them the long timeline of events (in case they care, but guessing they don't).

I would strongly advise against using SMS Auto Fabrics unless it's your last hope/choice. The run around you'll get is mind-boggling. I asked for a rough ETA - "are we talking - 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months", and couldn't get any answer. I was ok with waiting 12-18 months, but I lost confidence that they could provide a quality product, given the extreme runaround I was getting.

Caveat Emptor

Sorry to hear about this, first time I heard of bad experience with them. Good idea to try to go up the chain. I found the contact for the company president digging around and got a great response from him. Another time that didn't work...

The owner reached out late today after I filed the BBB complaint. Says he was making them, but I don't know why he would be making something his staff told me was canceled on 8/20/25 and refund being processed. Something doesn't add up. They are cancelling/refunding now.

I ordered Legendary about 12 years ago. Front and back seat covers and all the door panels. In original style. I remember it taking 4-6 week for delivery. I installed everything myself. Super happy with the look and quality. 12 years later they still look new. Car is garaged with a car cover on it though. I would order from them again.

Years ago, I took the interior door panels and rear quarter panels to Carlisle and left them with Legendary Interiors to be refurbished. At the same time, I ordered new front bucket seat and rear seat covers, as well as rear convertible top well, and boot cover. This was for my '64 Polara 500 convertible, with gold/olive metallic interior colour. At that time, you could only buy this shade vinyl material as NOS, since this colour was not reproduced. The way this worked, was that I was charged for a regular seat set, plus the amount of NOS material required. It worked out that my gold interior cost twice as much as a normal black interior. I figured that I had more $$$ in my interior than my 426 Street Wedge, 727 powertrain.
When I got my interior trim panels back, they came from SMS! Legendary had sub-contracted them out. These panels had a shiny chrome mylar insert in them. The driver's side door panel mylar insert was scuffed up from use, and I figured that this would not likely be repaired/replaced. To my amazement, the panels were restored to new condition by SMS, including new mylar inserts.
Legendary ended up sending me a rear seat set for a hardtop, rather than the narrower convertible set. They also supplied the wrong console carpet set for my car, and then decided to argue with me about it. It is a PITA to return stuff across the border! In the end, my relationship with Legendary continued to erode, and I ended up using SMS to finish my project. I found Legendary to be very arrogant to deal with, while SMS was just the opposite. This was my experience, anyway.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. As I mentioned in my post above, I ordered seat covers from Legendary but I also ordered a headliner from SMS.
I ordered custom vinyl color combinations and stitching on the Legenday covers but in a standard Belvedere seat pattern. Salespeople were very helpful. Trouble free ordering and finished product.
The headliner from SMS was standard. They sent the wrong shade of material at first - it was close but not what I ordered. They offered no resistance to making it right and sent the correct shade. They did not ask for the old one back. I will say they were nice and polite to deal with, but a little disorganized- they were not able to provide good estimates on completion dates.
Both experiences were good but Legendary just seemed to have their stuff together a little more than SMS.
