I was in third grade and built two Mopar models that year, a ‘62 Dart, and a ‘62 Imperial. I owned the real thing 30 years later.

I was 6 yrs. old in 62'. I did my driver's test in a 62' 4dr. Fury.

Walker Junior High in Milwaukee. 9th grade.

Dick Grimme lived across the alley from me. He had a six car garage and plenty of hoodlum friends that worked on their cars every weekend. 421 Poncho. '56 Chevy ragtop with a '56 Olds front bumper. '55 Ford 6 with dual carbs.

One day they stuffed me in the back seat with a 18 year old blonde who was trying to get my pants off!!! I told her I wasn't that kind of kid... but I am now!
 
Riding in my Dad's 1959 Chrysler wagon with rear air with a 383 RB that I had talked my Dad into welding on exhaust cut-outs, on the way from Ft Lauderdale to The 1962 World's Fair in Seatle before any real Interstates were built and certainly before GPS. I learned quickly how to read a map and how to advise the driver what turns/exit/directions were and how far they were ahead. My dad set a high bar.

My parents took us all to see the space needle too in 62, I was 6. It was much closer for us tho, 250 miles in a red 57 Plymouth.
 
Was 11....built several AMT models and had driven a 56 Plymouth Belvedere before turning 8 but didn't own any cars until 18 and that was a 66 Belvedere.
 
In high school in 1962. In the Air Force in 1966.
 
My parents didn't get married until 1963, but surely that already had thoughts of me by then and were probably doing some practicing. :rolleyes:

In 62 I was cruising the streets of Modesto CA with my buddies John, Curt, Steve and Toad. And chasing that damn white t-bird.

Got a ride in the CPD police car - '62
If I remember, they had bucket seats....

A family friend had that car in black new in 62. It was impressive. However, every time I see one I am reminded of a boat ride he took us out on in the Ocean off of Ft Lauderdale as kid. Middle of the day and weather was beautiful and maybe 3-4' swells. What could go wrong?

Not sure if we had started deep sea fishing or not, but a shark appeared slowly swimming near the surface off the back of the boat while we were moving at weak idle. Everyone ran to the back of the boat to get a glimpse in amazement.

However, that included the captain, the boat's owner.

Next thing we knew, we are ramming and were bouncing off a large harbor entrance anchored steel floating sea buoy next to the Gulfstream.

Luckily no damage, but it was a rather frightening experience for kid.

Always wondered if the shark intentionally set the trap and it wasn't his first time "fishing" for lunch?

8 years old in third grade but already fascinated with cars and helping Dad work on them. We had a 1958 Edsel Ranger 4-door sedan. My uncle had just purchased a new 1963 Dodge Polara. I thought that was a beautiful car! I loved the Edsel too
 
In 1962, I was in 10th grade and into the second year of going steady with my girlfriend from 8th grade, who is now my wife of 58 years. In '69, together we special-ordered our '69 Charger. She picked the F3 Light Green Metallic color and I picked the 383 HP and 4-speed. After 56 years, we still have it. I guess I tend to appreciate beauty and I keep my "stuff" for a long time.

The cars and girls of that era looked better than anything since. Smart guys realized that early on.
