I have received more than a few comments and questions about my signature car. So I decided to share some pictures of that project.

I disassembled the entire car and found numerous issues with the body.

Trunk floor rust:

The quarter panels were rusted along the bottoms as well:

So entire car was media blasted and then covered in epoxy primer.

Looks good, nice dash and shifter.

Usual rust areas, not a big problem.

I ended up replacing the quarter panels. This is when I discovered Goodmark panels aren't really Good.

While the quarter were off, I took the opportunity to replace the trunk floor.

The Goodmark panels had the rear sidelights in the wrong location, so I had to custom fit to the original panel.
Also, the body line on the right side quarter panel wasn't straight. It ran slanted down toward the rear and was 3" low. I had to rework that as well.

Once I got it all together and primed with Epoxy, I moved on to painting.

Once the clear coat had set, I did my cut and buff and began installing stripes.

Then vinyl top:

The dash needed total restoration:

Next I worked on the interior:

Had to remove everything down to the hardware.
Then replaced base fabric and foam:

This car was completed years ago. I deeply regret selling it.
That's part of the reason I bought the 1968 GTX I'm working on now. Nothing will replace my signature car though.

I’m working on a GG1 ‘68 R/T 4-speed also.

Mine was worse than yours when I got it…

I’m slowly collecting pieces to put it back together. As of New Year’s Day, it’s a roller again!

All the sheet metal is in place and I have collected a full set of glass. It’s slow going. MUCH cheaper to find one complete. It’s constantly $1k for this and $1k for that…

I remember a dark green on white 68 R/T and won awards.

68 Coronet R/T, in 1969 my Dad bought a leftover R/T new. His was gold with a black bumble bee stripe.
Same time he bought my sister a Coronet 500 same color as yours. The 68 has always been a favorite of mine.
Both cars rusted away to nothing within 6-7 years. Pennsylvania weather and steel mill fallout was not kind to them.

Yes sir, pricing on parts for these older muscle cars is off the charts. I checked out a single pole neutral safety for my 1968 GTX transmission and they want $76 plus shipping and tax for it.

What really kills those cars up there is the salt they use(d) on the roads in the winter time.

I think the owner then was from out of town. Central Calif? Seems like same car.

I thought this was ‘68 Coronet R/T’s car but it is white interior. These photos were from 2004 on a website that’s no more.
