'64 B Body Drag Race Brake Kit

Who makes a drag race disk brake set up for a '64 Belvedere? I've got drum brake spindles and don't know the difference between the different years. I'm able to find A body kits and '66-69 B body kits but striking out on a kit for my car. Thanks
 
B body drum brake knuckles (spindles) are the same from 62 to 72, so it won't be a problem finding a kit. Wilwood makes several kits for those knuckles.
 
The 66-69 stuff is the same. Will Wood makes a kit for drum spindles. This kit has the vented rotors for heavier cars. This is what are on mine. Along with the solid rear rotor on the rear. Stops great from 150 with no chute. I've run the weight up to 3650lbs with ballast. Part number 140-110-20. I'm sure Stange, Aero space, Mark Williams have them as well. There was no disc brake option in 64. So if it has factory spindles, they are drum. There are plenty of later factory disc spindles that bolt on.

If it's a dedicated racecar the solid rotors are fine
by any of the number of suppliers Baer or Willwood or many of the aftermarket stuff
Right Stuff, Summit Racing, Dr. Diff :blah: or Mancini Racing house brand
some make a drum to disc conversion using the factory drum spindle

if it will be driven on the street still, at all regularly
I'd go with SSBC (Stainless Steel Brake Company) offerings are great
their or any of the names above in a 'vented rotors',
the 'solid thin light rotors' will heat up instantly, serious brake fade on reg. driving

some of the street/strip type kits with vented rotors, are a lil' pricey
but are usually quality products

And if it going to be manual brakes, not power assist, like most racecars
the size of the Master Cylinder bore makes a huge difference
15/16" is about the biggest diam. bore to not have
to use excessive brake pressure on your foot/brake peddle
use good Teflon lined brake lines too, not full rubber

Will Wood has a front brake solid rotor kit as well. They recomend it for cars that weigh 2800lbs or less.

I just purchased a full Strange kit for my 67 from Cass Eslick (Dr.Diff). It fits my factory 67 spindles. He lists the same kit for 62-72 B Bodies. There’s not a better guy in the industry than Cass. I’m always pleased with the parts and support I get from him.

Can’t offer a review on how well they work just yet, but I’m sure it will be light years better than the stock 10” drums I’ve been on.

I concur, Cass is the the Mast of any quarter mile ship. He knows his products like no other.

Funny story. Many years ago i drove Bob Weekly's old Dodge Material car for Steve Atwell. It had 10" drums (10.20@130 mph). The best part was they wer lightened, Thhe face had 10 1 1/2"-2" ? holes in the outer face of the drum, I was braver back then.

I've done some crazy stuff, but that is steer crazy.
As far as drum brakes go, the old asbestos (unfortunately) lined shoes stop way, way better than any of these newbie linings with metallic this and that. I totally understand the drive towards the current lightweight disc brake systems. Cass as indicated above, is a great source.

I'm close to 130 with the tens. Or 2 footers I should say. On go the heavy A body's :rolleyes:
 
We're pretty fortunate that we have one of the longer tracks out there( built in 66). But generally speaking, NO ONE goes past the last turn off.. and it's usually long grass, with broken up pavement. I go into the turn at speed lol

my home track is Pacific Raceways. Shutdown area is long… From 130, it’s got plenty of space, even with 10” drums. But when something happens and you suddenly need a system that offers performance stopping power…. Well, let’s just say I recently realized the hard way that I need better brakes.
