Bought a 70

so I screwed myself a little bit......

when I patched in the damage on the door and fender; I went out of my way to keep it small. The surrounding metal was stretched and distorted; I knew that, but assumed I'd be able to tighten it up when I got back to it.

Well, frustration set in; and I wasn't happy with the mount of filler it was going to require.......if I wanted a pile of bondo, I would have just worked with what we had.

I really didn't have a ton of time into it; so I cut my losses along with the fender and door and went bigger. I should have gone big the first time.

I could have kept it under my hat ; but I'm so happy with it now, I just had to share :D

I used some original quarter panel. where the curvature matched what I need....... and stole the leading edge from a door in the parts pile

Uncle Jeff, The Pumpkin is rounding into form........

that repair will try anyone's patience......a big butt weld mid panel is impossible to keep straight.

Even back bracing the seams, welding one tack at a time, and cooling each one with an air blower..... the metal will fight you every inch

20 years ago, I'd have sourced a new fender and door....... but these are nice and solid; pick your poison

I'm happy and moving on
