Push to start ignition

Hi I’m building a 68 charger and want to install a push to start ignition, does anyone have suggestions on make or models to go with?
 
I wonder if you could fabricate a push to start button from a new gen charger, challenger and 300.
 
Not sure if this is the ‘quality’ you’re envisioning but I made one off of a kit from amazon. I had an old factory ignition switch I used the shell and mount from and fit the push button in it. So it mounts to the factory spot as it’s supposed to. Then I made a mini harness that goes from the switch to the harness switch connector. That way I didn’t cut anything and I can put it back to factory in 15 minutes. It has a security sensor so you use a fob to enable the start. I think it’s pretty cool. Hasn’t given me any issues and no problems with cold start after sitting for a while.

I also shaved my doors so I wired it to my door fob so now I have remote start too haha

Lots of kits out there as well as many DIY systems. Its not super complicated but just do some research.
 
I just installed this one on a hot rod I am building. All plastic.... but what isn't any more. I like the look of it. There are a bunch of different ones on eBay.

I just got a heavy duty push button switch and ran the ignition wires to it. You had to turn the ignition key to on to juice it up than push the button. Turn key off to shut down.
 
Others that have done this "push button start" must have cars radically different than my stock 66 Charrger. If t it sits for 2-3 days between drives it starts right up in 3 to 4 seconds. If it sits for a week or more, the gas has evaporated from the carb bowels and it requires a few cycles of cranking to get some gas to the carb start it, not to mention flooring the pedal to mechanically set the choke.
IMHO, guess that you could do electric pumps for fuel, solenoids to set and release choke, and lots of re-wiring and modifications, or just turn and hold the key in the start position for a bit longer, that doesn't cost anything.
 
I think this is one of a kind. My uncle was an electrician in the 60s and he had a job changing out the launch buttons on Atlas atomic missiles from a single push button to a two key launch like you see in the movies. He kept one of the old buttons, and I talked him into letting me use it as a starter button on my roadrunner. It has holes to safety wire it and it had red wax sealer on it. The safety cover says “commit start“ and then when you flip that open the button inside says “start“. IMG_6029.jpegIMG_6031.jpegIMG_6032.jpeg

If you want to retain the key feature and only use the switch for "start" ... The switch is only triggering the starter relay with very low amperage - so no "heavy duty" switch required.

This would serve more as an anti-theft device ... you still insert the key and turn it to "run" then push the switch to start the engine. Since my car doesn't have washers anymore I'm considering doing this and using the washer switch as the "start" switch.

You only need a "kit" if you're going all in and removing the ignition key completely.
 
Fyi Chrysler did push to start in the late 50s.
Our 58 Coronet is push to start, turn key to on (no start position), push neutral on push-button auto, starts!

No, you couldn't. They are on a K line private bus, so it communicates to the RFHub that a start is requested, the RF Hub then searches for the FOBIK to query for the secret code, once received, it communicates the start request over the bus to the pcm that it is ok to start. The pcm then closes the relays to power the vehicle and the starter.
So it is not a switch, it's a module.
 
You will of course need a manual transmission and a couple of friends. Parking downhill works good too.
