The ones I took off the car are definitely a smaller diameter.

5/16 = 0.312. So I think you're safe calling that 5/16th
It took hours but I finally got one seat back done.
I had to modify the molded foam, as it was about an inch too wide at the top, while fitting snugly against the bottom sides.
Also had to remove about an inch of foam from the bottom.
Add to that an extra layer of foam across the front and sides. It actually could of used an extra layer down the lower front sides for a nice tight fit but I was too tired to take it all apart again. LOL

I have new vinyl for the seat back board panels. However, I am not sure if the originals are still shaped properly?
The bottom is curved to match the metal but the tops seem slightly flared backwards.

The front side looks pretty good, but the backside has way too many wrinkles (sorry to say). I know how difficult it was to get it this far, but I wouldn’t mount it in my car like this. Maybe try to stuff some thin foam sheets there?
My old backer boards were so funky, I made new ones out of ultra thin plywood. They look pretty good and surely much better than the old twisted ones. FYI, my seats came out of a junk yard and were severely degraded before I pulled them apart and rebuilt them.
I was hoping that with some time in the sun those wrinkles would go away.

Spray on adhesive worked well. No, from my experience the wrinkles will not go away with heat.
The photo seems to show that the cover is not symmetrical. I would measure it to ensure it is. If it’s not, contact Legendary and see what they say.
I noticed that the back seam was not centered. I had tried to center it at first but the the corner seams would not allow it.
When I got the top corners correct the overlapped seam was left of center. This was on both seat back covers.

Thanks. I think I will try readjusting mine. The foam was so poorly shaped that trying to get things lined up was incredibly difficult.

Okay, spent a few hours and more layers of foam but got both seat backs centered better. Still not perfect by any means.

Where did you get the foam? I think that I bought mine from Legendary and it fit perfectly.
The same place I bought the seat covers, PUI. Figured their seat covers should fit the foam they sell.
On the bottom half of the sides I had to add two extra layers of 1/2" thick foam. Using that white foam that compresses some.
Also had to add another layer on the upper back side. Was difficult to get it in there smoothly.
The foams that I used needed no additional padding anywhere and they seemed to be perfectly sized and shaped. I’d bet that either they gave you the wrong set or the manufacturer of those foams did a lousy design of their molds.

My former car was done with a legendary kit by the guy I sold it to in 1991. The seats still look perfect today.
I checked my records and I had used Legendary for my signature car. Which is probably why I didn't remember such hassles.
