440 engine rear down. Anything worth keeping?

I have a '72 HP block that all of that would fit right into. Hopefully somebody nearer to you can use it. That is some good stuff, mainly the crank, balancer and the windage tray, the cam may be a good one too. All that stuff is getting harder to find. To me there is nothing like original and...

440 engine rear down. Anything worth keeping?

Don't throw any of it away. If you don't want it, offer it up for sale at reasonable price, to somebody who needs it.

    Yet another 440 build

Cast crank is externally balanced, so you will have to have it balanced with the flywheel and correct harmonic balancer. I have heard they are good up to 500 HP.

What oil in a fresh rebuild on an 833?

Here we go... there is a bunch of threads on this one. Lots of opinions...My A-833 has Lucas 80-90 gear oil.

    383 low oil pressure

How much oil pressure would you have without the short spring? What makes your oil pressure so high? Just curious. My 440 runs around 80 psi with a high volume pump. Thanks

your opinion on Sealed power bearings?

Why not? Is there something wrong with sealed power? For a stock 318, any stock bearing will be fine.

    383 low oil pressure

Change the filter to a Wix and fill it up with VR1 20w-50 (or equivalent) and get it warm and see what the oil pressure is. 10 LBS per 1000 RPM is the minimum standard. You want at least 50 lbs at 5000 rpm.

    67 4 speed swap

It is hard to mix and match on the Mopar 4 speed stuff. Try to find a matched factory set up for a '67 or '68. Its never cheap on Mopar stuff.

    How to destroy a 440

I have to ask, what is your plan? Is anything re usable? Sleeve it? Weld the head?

    TF 727 383 and 440

You have to tell us more about the 440, mainly the crank and rods that it has. Like #41 said.

If you're depending on zinc to protect your flat tappet?

I say trust the engineers at the oil companies and use the oil that is formulated for "racing and classic cars". There is a few. They cost a little more than the modern formulations, but they are made for flat tappet cams. No need to speculate and worry about what you are mixing up. You probably...

Engine block info on a 440?

Cast crank will have a different balancer than forged crank.

Engine block info on a 440?

Show us some pictures of the engine and we might be able to help you. You will have to get under the car to see the casting date. The pad on the top front of the engine should have a date stamp. What are you trying to do with it?

How much carb is too much carb

Probably too rich. Find out what the factory jetting was on the 3310 and go down at least 6 sizes for your altitude. Advance the timing until it's hard to crank then back off a little. Probably not the best intake manifold for a heavy car either. Perfomer or a stock one would make it more...

    Oil pressure irregular

What filter did you use? Wix seems to be ok. Fram, maybe not good. Dave6T4 taught us that.

    440 performance

Cool looking beater!! One of those "street sleeper" looking cars. Get that 440 tuned up right and it should surprise some people.

    440 performance

What kind of car is it? Not relevant, but I am curious. Maybe show us some pictures of it. Sounds like it has potential. Maybe that stock cam would be a big improvement on the low end torque.

Vibration in vehicle above 66 mph. Then oscillating then somewhat smooths out.

Did the local guy that built the driveshaft balance it after he built it, or just got it trued up, ready to balance?

    WTB 4 Speed 833 Linkage

Brewers has all of that stuff as well as about any other thing related to A-833.
