Thanks. I have a 73 with a banged up valance and another member has a 72 valance available. This wont be a resto ever, just an old car to beat around in. Dont need it perfect.
Run pump premium. The valves aren't going to wear out from the lack of lead for many many miles. You may find your valve stem seals have dried out from sitting. Somewhere in the future when you do a valve job have them cut in hardened seats if you want to remain stock.
Regular motor oils have had the zinc removed from them for several years now. You should use one of the few high zinc oils on the market or a diesel oil like Shell Rotella or Mobil Delvac.
You are gonna have a lot of opinions on this subject....
Is that something that is on SE's and not ralleys? Or got to do with his having bumper guards? Is that just a 72 thing or do i need to check my 73 SE for you?
I would concentrate on getting the best quality car for the money. Whatever motor you end up with you can modify for your taste and needs. Its a big car. Its gonna take some power to make it move. Power takes fuel. Good luck.
Might be bigger than you need right now but will work fine. A 650 single feed holley would handle everything you need on the street and save a few bucks. Go with an edelbrock air gap intake and you will be happy with the improvements. Next on the list will be headers to let all that air back...
You need to do some adjusting on your shift linkage. When you have it all together it must not be getting into park. That is part of you other problem with the tranny not shifting right. Something is not kosher somewhere. Is the car actually in park when the indicator shows it is?
Bare wires touching metal would be a dead short. The power goes through the body to ground instead of going thru the circuit you want it to ground. Heat and smoke generally follows if shorted too long.
