440 that doesn't want to idle ... Tale as old as time

I'm thinking you are talking about the voltage regulator not a ignition module. You're talking about it running rich. Poor spark or timing way off can cause this and would stall out when you place it in gear. The engine can idle and rev up under these conditions when not in gear and give the...

440 that doesn't want to idle ... Tale as old as time

Have you verified the timing mark? Or just set the timing by ear. You should be able to hold the brakes, put it in gear feathering the gas pedal. Torque converter could be a little tight for that cam but should slip enough to get it rolling. I'm running a stock converter that was behind the...

    Wont idle any clue?

Check for water in the gas also.

    Wont idle any clue?

Yes, if the gap is too close or too wide it can cause misfire. If it backfires when giving it throttle and runs weak this could be the condenser. Won't idle can be point gap and or timing. Must check timing after setting points.

Takes forever to start after sitting for a few days...

Working on carburetor vehicles I found that they all have their likes and dislikes when starting them cold and then when hot. Sometimes you just have to experiment to find what works best.

    Lead gas additive

Whether I'm using 10% ethanol during the summer months or using non-ethanol for winter storage, I use the Staybil 360. One oz per 5 gal of fuel. Has the protection that I'm looking for and protects the gas from deteriorating.

440 that doesn't want to idle ... Tale as old as time

Unless you set it up to run fairly rich you'll need a choke for cold start, drop it in drive. I'd go 18* and see how it runs. Give it what it likes without it pinging.

    Carter WCFB Help

The above picture is the choke fast idle. These pictures are showing the throttle stop. I copied this from this site. Highlighted in red are links to troubleshooting and parts. It does look like the mixture screws are missing? I can't find a picture looking at it head on to verify. Carter...

    Surging engine

Start with checking ignition, points (if you're using them) and timing. While checking timing confirm vacuum advance is operating. No change check fuel/air adjustment. No changes check fuel filter, no changes check float level. Do these one at a time so you know what was causing it.

    Fuel Fragrance Additive

I remember smelling it at one of the national events. Had to be either Englishtown NJ or Maplegrove Pa. Took me by surprise because I used to use Brute cologne at one time and I knew the scent. I was wondering where it was coming from and then it dawned on me that Capps was making a pass. What...

    Fuel Fragrance Additive

I experienced smelling the additive years ago working on a SuperComp team. Would be in the staging lanes and would smell different fragrances. Cherry would remind me of someone baking a cake! I couldn't believe people would actually do this but sometimes it could be better than the burning...
