It sounds like you went just a tic too far.

Wide open throttle should be full open at the throttle valve lever at the transmission. You might be close. You need to tighten up the adjustment at the carb to give it more pressure. That will raise your shift points.

Thinking about that, you can adjust the driver's side just a tic higher to make up for driver weight. Have someone your weight sit behind the wheel while you adjust. If you want to get things down to the gnat's azz.

You would probably be better off to push a dent out than pull because of the strength and thickness of the old sheet metal. Those paintless dent removers are designed for late model sheet metal, thin and springy. Ask a PDR tech and see what they recommend. Most won't even work on a old car with...
