62 Dart Wagon pushbutton transmission question

I'd have to check the FMS again but I didn't even torque mine that much. I was feeling the pucker factor kicking in and chickened out. Edit... I checked and it's 10 inch lbs. The reason I had to remove my park housing is because I broke the clamp bolt making the park cable adjustment. It only...

62 Dart Wagon pushbutton transmission question

That's the clamp bolt that holds the cable in place. You just loosen the nut but not all the way. Gently tap it at the threaded end to move it. You'll feel the cable loosen up. You don't remove it. Also when reinstalling the cable you don't want to over tighten it. It will snap. I believe it's...

62 Dart Wagon pushbutton transmission question

Here's the rear band shaft that was mentioned. I'd get it real clean with parts cleaner then puff some baby powder all over everything and watch where it's coming from. Might save you more work if it's only the gasket or cable o-ring. Still involved to remove the cable and housing. There's a...

Ubolts with flattened top? and pinion seal question...

I didn't even mark the nut. After replacing the seal I used some Teflon paste on the splines and a little oil on the seal and contact area on the yoke. Installed the yoke, washer and nut. Tighten till it bottomed out and turned the yoke to seat the bearings. (Maybe didn't need to do that part) A...

Ubolts with flattened top? and pinion seal question...

With the rear on jack stands, I had the driver's side wheel off and had the breaker bar with long pipe through under the leaf springs. Stood on the pipe from outside the car. Cass once told me that 240 ft lbs was extreme. The size of the thread and nut doesn't warrant that much torque. I broke...

8 3/4 axle end play adjustment Help!

I'd say it was just dumb luck. It only takes just a hair of misalignment on those fine teeth. I bought a center section once and neither axel would go completely in.

8 3/4 axle end play adjustment Help!

First thing is you need to tighten the backing plate in order to take out the end play. The adjuster needs something to push against. You might have cross threaded the adjuster or maybe it's just binding because of the loose backing plate/bearing retainer. Jump to the 7:00 mark....

    VC sealing tips/tricks

Seemed that I used a Felpro hard rubber gasket last time. With everything clean and oil free I'll use 3M Black weather strip adhesive to glue the gasket to the valve cover. Then using Permatex Ultra Black or for faster setup time use Permatex "The Right Stuff" and put a 1/4" bead on the gasket...
