    U-Bolts - Reuse or replace?

90 lbs on 1/2" bolts. They use a Crown type lock nut, but they don't have dimples. The Service manual recommends retorquing a number of times. Apparently, there's a engineered spring effect. I only recently learned of the term torque to yield while I was messing with some U-bolts. I knew...

Broken valve cover bolt removal is next on my agenda.

I would be hoping for a stretched and broken bolt as it's mild steel and much easier to deal with

Broken valve cover bolt removal is next on my agenda.

are you sure that is a broken drill bit? The raised ridge in the middle also looks like stretched metal. Two very different challenges. If you have a Dremel end grinder, they make small end mill bits like 69bee referred to. Cleaned up, it should be obvious what you are dealing with.

that's a good turntable and receiver. what is your issue? scratchy noises in the pots of the receiver is dust. Pull the cover and spray away. Disassemble to get at the pots according to your comfort level. It's not that high dollar of a receiver, while still worthy, so be brave. clean...

I bought an old corvette and its 1 of 16

For a short time in the 90s, US states could set speed limits. State Police couldn't adequately enforce speed limits on the "Montanabahn" so the courts rescinded the standard of "reasonable and prudent". I lived an hour from Montana, but didn't have anything worthy of the racer's rodeo, so I...

I bought an old corvette and its 1 of 16

An engineer I know bought one in 1990. If I remember correctly, the sticker price was $50,000, which was a lot at that time. A Stealth R/T was $32,000. So when they inspect it, I assume they're expecting you to take it on the autobahn. Does it get a different inspection than a Volkswagen...
