    Okay put the adjustable end back on where it was. That shifter box is not original the levers have really big holes.

    The adjustable end of 1-2 shift rod should be reinstalled so you can see the retaining clip. The other end of 1-2 shift rod just remove the shift lever nut and flip the shift lever over and reinstall it.

    The adjustable end goes on the transmission shift lever.

    The reverse shift rod is installed backwards. Remove the reverse shift rod from both ends and reinstall it so you can not see the shift rod retaining clips. The adjustable end of the shift rod needs to be attached to the reverse shift lever on the transmission.

    1972 RR 440 won’t start after running fine. Battery and fuses seem good. Replaced alternator, voltage regulator and ballast resistor. Any ideas?

    The connection looks okay for now. That wire could be frayed in other places and grounding out when it runs on top of the cylinder head.

    Check this black wire coming from the alternator to see that it's not grounding out somewhere.

    Try to set the initial timing to 14-16 degrees with the vacuum advance plugged.

    You won't be able to get the aligning tool through the third one (reverse) because there is no hole. You can use one hand to hold the second and third ones together with your fingers, while you turn the reverse shift rod to the correct length with the other hand.
