Newbie, hello and about the car I own

I really like those Road Runners. I think I like them more than the original body style.

1966 B body steering column question

The pictures are great. Mine is a little different. Thanks very much for the offer, though. Here are some pictures for comparison.. The first picture is the side that slides up into the steering column tube. It is from an automatic on the column shifted car. The second shot is from the front. If...

1966 B body steering column question

Yes, that is exactly what that is. Is there a part number on that old box or would you sell that? That is what I need for the bottom of mine. The black rubber seal from a previous post slides up over that.

1966 B body steering column rebuild

One more question...ever seen these? Came out of the steering column, but again, I have no clue where they would go back in.

I thought so too, but the bearing has the c clip on the bottom and same on top of it. I didn't want to crush those discs. Thank you oldkimmer

1966 B body steering column rebuild

I appreciate the response you gave and have the column about 95% done now. All painted, new parts for everything I could find parts for and is about ready to come out of the shop and go in the basement under a foam wrapper. But the 5% left is bugging me. I have these two little discs that came...

1966 B body steering column question

Ok, hit wrong key...the black seal with the white center fits over the bottom of the steering column. The big white piece is in fact the support at the bottom of the column for the steering column shaft to be centered in the column housing. It should have two screw holes in it. There is a ridge...

1966 B body steering column question

That big white ring looks like what is at the bottom of my '66 automatic column shift. Then, over the top of that is the piece gtx6970 has a photo of in this thread. The ridge around that white piece goes into a molded edge that fits over the seal in gtx6970's No, I ordered a new one of these...

Thanks for the reply. I believe this is how coffee cans fill up.

1966 B body steering column question

You are correct. I saw the imprint of the nut holder on the lower firewall plate and it is exactly the same size as the bottom of the gear shift lever that goes in the column... Any way, would you know what these two spacers are for and where they are supposed to go?

1966 B body steering column question

I didn't even think of that. It looked and fit as if it went towards the top of the steering column - but thank you for that answer. Now, I am back at it after a long break...we are in the middle of calving season so the amount of time spent on the project kind of gets pushed around. Here is...

1966 B body steering column question

So, where does this gasket go? As you can see, it has marks and indentations that perfectly fit and match up with the steering column cup or bucket ( the first piece on top of the column) and the second piece which holds the blinker switch. But, when I put it together with it, there is such a...

1966 B body steering column question

This is the piece that the previous photos sit on top of. The gear shift lever goes in that square boss on the right side of the picture. But looking at the inside of this, there is no tang, tab or slot for something to connect to. How the heck does the little orange thing attach? Anyone got...

1966 B body steering column question

Here is the "bucket" and this is the front view. I am holding it in the general position. There are just two small screws that hold the plastic PRNDL in place. Inside the bucket is where blinker cam assembly sit.

1966 B body steering column question

This is the gear shift indicator that goes on top of the column. The little orange arrow attaches to something...but I took this apart a few months ago and now am getting back to it so naturally I have no clue about how it mounted. There is supposed to be something for that orange piece to slide...

1966 B body steering column question

Hi guys, I have been restoring the column on my 66 coronet. Auto, column shifter and it has the arch above the column with the gear shift indicator. I am struggling with how the little orange indicator attaches. Looking at parts diagrams there is something called a GATE with a part number of...

Should i replace or roll the dice

Hi Mountain, Personal opinion here...I'd replace them and then drive faster than 50! Old tires do not hold together the same as they are starting to dry rot. That is why you are seeing those cracks. What you can't see is what you should be concerned about.

Newbie, hello and about the car I own

Ok, no pictures yet ( promise, some will be coming). I mentioned completing the steering column rebuild and have just about got it done. That's next set of pictures and a few helpful tips. Another item is the trim. The University of You Tube is most helpful on some things, right? Over the...
