    Brake Issue Using Dot 5

I have been using DOT 5 fluid since 1985. Never had an issue. It has been in my Charger R/T since 1985. Now, every vehicle I have used it in started out with completely new components. Also, I have always sourced the fluid from the same supplier, Bill Hirsch Automotive.

    Brake Issue Using Dot 5

When I worked in a gas station (remember those?) as a teenager. Guy came in needing some brake fluid to limp his relic home. Smallest can of brake fluid cost more than he had. He went next door to the variety store (remember those?) bought a pint of milk and poured it in the master cylinder. Off...

    Year One Battery Cover Fitment?

Couldn't find an answer to my specific question with a search, so here goes. Just attempting the install of the group 27 battery cover I bought to make the new battery appear somewhat (somewhat relative term, lol) original. Cover fits on the battery fine and looks better than a new battery...

SOLD 1968 Dodge Coronet 500, 383 4 bbl, Auto, PS, A/C, Bucket seats, Console, dual exhaust

Wow, this is almost a clone of my very first car, way back when. The only difference, mine was a 4 spd. and had a red interior (buddy seat instead of console). I would be all over this if my shop wasn't currently full.

Whats the longest you've waited for parts?

I am still waiting for a Charger dash fascia from Mitchell Motors. So how long ago was that? lol.

What did you do today....other than work on your car!?

Changing the oil and filter in the lawn tractor. Then back to my wife's TR6. Becoming acquainted with a Laycock overdrive unit at the moment.

Need some advice. Will torch heat damage the chrome?

It would help to have taken some measurements. Inside diameter of the yoke and outside diameter of the fork tube. Wedges in the slot should have worked unless the measurements indicate otherwise.

What cars did you buy for 2-300 bucks back in the day?

Circa 1975, bought an Amphicar to use as a "field" car. Wasn't safe to drive through a mud puddle, let alone float. Paid $50 for and got about a year's use out of it. If I had only known how valuable they would become!

Octane rating when mixing Regular gas (93octane) with Racing fuel (110) octane.

I did start my response by saying "I am reluctant get into this fray". (again)

Octane rating when mixing Regular gas (93octane) with Racing fuel (110) octane.

The addition of TEL to the fuel is not a linear, consistent octane increase. It depends on the constituent makeup of the base fuel. This means the only way to confirm octane numbers is with a knock engine. All this means is that you cannot do a straight ratio calculation as you can by blended...

Octane rating when mixing Regular gas (93octane) with Racing fuel (110) octane.

Not sure I want to get involved in this fray, but the OP did not specify whether the racing fuel was leaded or not. Back in the day, when I actually worked for Suncor (Canadian Sunoco), we did all of the different blends with pump unleaded, av gas and race gas. All were verified in the...

Wildfire Trolley Jack (or any four post lift jack) experience?

I have one on my Advantage lift (same factory as the Wildfire). I use it all the time. Like others said, keep the tracks clear and the rollers lubed. No problem clearing the oil pan on a B Body, and I have a Triumph TR6 on it right now with no issues. Keep the jack stowed at the front of the...

    Wheel cylinder rebuild kit recommendations

I have had Dot 5 in my Charger for over 40 years with no issues. Put it in my boat trailer brakes a few years back as well. I think most of these negative reports are bogus or the result of incompetence.

    Welding consumables pricing

Bob, why would you imply that without knowing me? Since I procure supplies and materials for commissioning projects across North America, I possess some clout for personal purchases with companies who normally would not deal with the"Home Depot" crowd as they call it. Now that I have retired...
