Let's talk more about garage door openers.

Sorry guys, Haven’t been on this page in a while. My last house was in the middle of a small city and nobody bothered anything. Since I moved out into a more semi-rural setting, things seem to disappear more easily. The neighbor has lost one dump trailer, to thieves and nearly had the second...

    Original Nylon Timing Gear Cracked

A friend raced his Bronco off-road and always used the OEM timing set. I ask why and he explained that it was lighter than steel, and cheaper but, he did replace it yearly.

Let's talk more about garage door openers.

We have had a couple Genie belt drives on our backyard garage/shop for the last 10 years. 3 years ago I changed one of them to Chamberlain jackshaft drive, due to a two post lift, needing overhead space. All the fancy electronics for the Chamberlain went in the trash. On the house, we have an 18...

Help needed to id strange block!

Back in the early 90’s I pulled the engine from a 70 New Yorker. 440 with those cast water pump mounts over the bell, and a heavy duty 727 behind it. Took it all apart and borrowed a sonic tester, found it to be the thickest 440, by a good margin, I ever had.

    I need a bolt I don't think exists.

Do away with the banjo and use a straight AN fitting. I know they are out there because, a friend uses them. I’d put money on a hose store stocking it. I just looked it up, Summit has a couple different colors.

Recommendations on a 2 post lift

I bought a Tuxedo lift from Lowe’s and have been pretty happy with it, during the 3 years I have had it. It’s all steel and the columns are fully welded so, it seems like it’s gonna be OK for the hobby stuff I do. 9k seemed like it would be more lift than I need but, working this thing less...

Air compressor died! Any recommendations for a good 60-80 gallon upright around $1000?

I have in my shop, a 2hp, 80 gallon, 2 stage Kellog- American that has been close to 60 years old. It doesn’t like a die grinder so well but, is close to keeping up with most other tools. A single stage Ingersoll Rand, I bought new in 1988, is in the garage on the house. Had 20 gallon Sears...

Wiggle signal light lever- lights go crazy?

Never have had an issue with a Mopar but, a Monte Carlo I had in 1978 had this problem. The turn signal lever had gotten loose, at the switch cam and was grounding out the circuit.

Tire pressure Gauge.... What are you using ?

I bought the basic Longacre digital gage, 52-53036 is the number. Accuracy as good as I will ever need, in .2 steps. It’s nice to be able to use the same gage for higher fronts and low pressure slicks.

Finally time to pull the trigger . . . starting on the New (much anticipated) SHOP - Build

Looking great, Sir. I’m jealous but, started on a new sheet metal roof for my garage, anyways. Getting the first sheet situated exactly where I wanted, left me sliding down the roof. To stop me from falling I had no choice but to grab the metal. 3 weeks later, after healing from 14 stitches, I...

Crank/head long term storage recommendations .....

A friend set a crankshaft on end, from his Olds W30. When the dog knocked it over no one picked it up and several months later it was bent and junked. The angle it took on, was clearly visible. I don’t remember if it was cast or forged but, I would expect it was a forging.

    Transmission holding fixture

Found an old engine stand in someone’s trash. I hacked it up and bench mounted it just, for trans duty. I need to take a couple pictures. The front plate bolts to the bell housing and the little angle iron piece catches the trans tab. That chain is for pulling the front pump. Redneck works for...
