Vapor-Locking... the bane of my existence.

Not uncommon for clear filters to see air. If there is fuel in the filter I would question if thats the issue. When it quits does it have spark? Will it start with a spritz of carb clean in the carb? In over 50 years of building hot rods never had one vapor lock. Doug

    Home Alignment Results

You alway move both wheels in the direction the wheel is off. In your case the wheel is off to the right. So think of it like this. The wheel needs to be rotated counter clockwise to be straight. With the car setting still do just that. Now you will see with the wheel straight the tires are...

    1964 Push Button 727

Do you have a push button valve body? Or is is a floor shift 64/column shift 65 valve body? The rooster comb, manual valve, and nuetral switch are different between the two types. The wrong valve body can be easily convertered by swapping the correct rooster comb, manual valve. neutral safety...

Im assuming the 1/2 buttons wont press in?Which neutral safety switch? If it's the nylon style plunger, the plunger sets to deep and can interfer with the rooster comb. Doug

    Home Alignment Results

I'm not sure where you got this info. It will pull towards the side with the lower caster. Higher camber can cause it to pull as well, but to a lesser degree. The specs given here are good. They shouldn't cause any pull. If the road is flat it should go nearly straight. The first place I'd look...

    Drums for Racing

In the past I've run mid 10's@128 using 10" drum brakes. It wasn't bad at a normal length track.Th biggest concern is pulling right or left on a hard stop. Good wheel cylinders, smooth backing plates, rivreted shoes, and drums that have a nice finish. Not to mention good front suspension...

What is the general opinion of doing a 440 block .060 over?

It's a street motor with cast pistons. Nobody would blink an eye at .030" over with the cylinder walls .015" thinner than stock. At .060" over, the cylinder walls are .030" thinner than when it was standard bore. So why get so excited about .015"? Doug

I'm Stalling on my 727 stall converter choice

I agree with the stock Hi Stall 10 3/4" used in 340's. It'll be darn close to what you want. And there cheap. Doug

    Plastic or insulation preference

One box is 36 sqaure feet I covered the floor and any access hole in the doors. I've seen people put it on th eroof as well. The more coverage you install the quieter it is. I did my 67 Jeep pickup. Didn't do th ecieling or the vertical at the back of the cab. the results were amazing as this...

Broke the truck on the way home from Bowling Green.

The only deal driving the 5 speed is wind out 4rd a bit. To be honest 95% is 60mph state roads or interstate. The only thing I use this truck for is to tow. The motorhomes are cheap enough its probably going happen. Doug

Broke the truck on the way home from Bowling Green.

I thought about a 6 speed. Cost was more than it was worth. Actually on the fence right now. The slide in camper needs an upgrade. So It's either a newer camper $6-15K. Swap the trailer for a gooseneck with living quarters, $20k. Or buy an older Cummins pusher motorhome, $25-30K. Both the...

Broke the truck on the way home from Bowling Green.

Diesel, hopped up to about 330hp. Forgot to mention. Don't leave the shifter hole uncovered for a week waiting on parts. Damn bird came in and crapped everywhere. seats, dash, door panels. So this morning the interior got a full cleaning Doug

Broke the truck on the way home from Bowling Green.

The press fit shaft is not available. A few rebuilders use the full spline slip fit shaft with Locktite 620 sleeve locker. This shaft also features a split washer that fits into a groove in the shaft held in place with a 2nd coned washer. The rebuilder I watched said this works extremly well...

Rebuilt 727 shifts but no downshift

The car doesn't need to have the wheels rotating to test line pressure. Could it be driven and tested ? Yes. Could you pull the trans and tear it apart? Yes. But what would you be looking for? I've been building Torqueflites for over 45 years. If it was mine the first thing I would do is...

Broke the truck on the way home from Bowling Green.

Driving along on my 8 hr trip home 2 weeks ago. Coming down the very steep hill on I-75 into Cincinnati. Traffic coming to a halt at the bottom of the hill. Truck isn't stopping. Pedal is firm. Fortunately it was on an edge lane. Pulled onto the shoulder and missed the cars ahead. Had a pretty...

Pro Bracket Radials vs. Bias slicks

Hoosier makes a 10.5x31 radial. They were previously marked 11.5x31. They changed the sidewall designation. The guys running N/SS with them have nothing but good things to say about them. Duell's Wagon has been 1.22 60ft off the foot brake on them. I'm going to get a pair when I need tires...
