Haha, this car is about a 4500 pound pig with me, my sweetie, the tool bag, and a full tank of gas. Shaving weight might be nice but I'd have to get a lot of it off to make a difference. This question came about because I'm swapping the 904 out for a 42RH and saw the thing but couldn't figure it...
Hey Dustin - sadly, I know all too well about mission creep. I have all the stuff I need to do a full 4-bbl upgrade with some other goodies and already while I'm under the car tonight the little imp in my ear is whispering how much easier it would be to do it ALL NOW and don't wait. Haha, says...
I'm in the process of pulling the 904 out of my 72 Coronet Wagon to replace it. At the rear of the unit by the yoke is this big round metal thing on a bracket. It's a pretty significant chunk of metal. Anyone know what it's for, and if it needs to go back on the 42RH I'm installing?
Tonight's update. I got started on the trans swap starting with draining the old unit. What a mess. There is a reason I'm going to put a different pan on the new one, with a drain plug. Yes I realize I will only pull this pan once every few years, but I don't care. It's a super sloppy PITA doing...
I'm not sure how a 72 stacks up against a 66-67, but mine has a Big *** End. I'm running 255-60/15 and still have tons of room on both sides. I'm moving to 275-60/15 with no concerns.

If you're looking for a dual snorkel I have this one. I can't provide any history on it, I got it in a parts lot/swap a while ago. If you're looking for a correct 68-69 unit this one may be a bit newer than that? I was told it was likely from a 72-ish 440. LMK if you're interested and I can get...
Good ideas, thanks. I planned to skip the TC until final assembly, but the trans is already built. Wish I'd heard of this earlier, I could have gotten the empty case for a while to do the fab work but alas it is not to be.
Let's revisit the trimming issue. I took a better look at the case and I...
I just lost my Dad four months ago. It was not unexpected, but it's still no fun. To answer your original question when losing someone close, at least for me, it does get better with time. Initially the pain is sharp but it does ease up.
I focus on a couple of things that help. Dad made it to...
Good news, this project is now moving forward. It took a while to find a core trans and then get it rebuilt. The completed candidate is ready to go with a rebuilt torque converter. I did get the US Cartool crossmember to simplify my install.
@1 Wild R/T, you mention the fixturing tabs, what...
My shop is 20x40 with 13' walls and lots of extra overhead volume. It is very well insulated, and has two huge ceiling fans - the heat pump keeps it toasty in the winter and chilly in the summer. Love that thing, I can work out there in any kind of weather and be comfy.
It's been a while, but it's update time. The car was parked for the winter, but I got a new transmission put together so installation is next on my to-do list. I found a 42RH and got the US Cartools trans mount adapter thing to ease installation. It's not that I'm fab-incompetent, but sometimes...
This is a process I wouldn't normally recommend, but I had your scenario to deal with on a frozen 273 a few years ago. I got the engine in a parts lot and had zero interest in using it. It was massively frozen and I decided to give it a go just for educational purposes - it was going to the...
