The P.S. gearbox in my car right now has the screw and locknut adjustment but not the adjustment when you loosen 2 or 4 bolts and tap the plate about 1/64 inch so the steering wheel won't jump the the left or right of center when you start the car.
If you are asking me I don't have a clue. That is what I am trying to find out however as I mentioned a 40+ year red seal mechanic friend of mine said he has never seen a P.S. box like the one currently in my car and although there is the screw/nut adjustment on top of the box there is no place...
My friend and myself have been looking on the internet and cannot find a steering box that matches the one in the car right now. The part number on the side of the cardboard box this current one came is 55-6546 which when that number is looked up on the Internet it's a totally different box...
I bought the car in Regina Canada and believe it was sold new out of a Regina dealership. As far as being manufactured in Canada I couldn't say. Didn't know Chrysler had a plant in Canada.
Is that your original box from 1968? I'm just wondering if a different manufacturer did make my current box would they have moved the bolts that have to be loosened for adjustment to a different location. Also from the picture of your box the line to the reservoir is close but different than in...
The box was reman. by a business in Winnipeg called Autoline. I ordered the box at a Piston Ring location nearby. If this is not a Mopar steering box but was accidently put in a cardboard box with number 55-6546 on the label would the mounting holes to the frame and metal tubing to the...
The sloppy spot would be between the approximately 11 and 1 O'clock position (could be up to the 10 and 2 O'clock position) and when the key is bumped the steering wheel will jump/turn/twitch to the right about an inch.
My old steering box had four bolts on the top of the box that I assume is the access to make this adjustment. I don't know if what appears to be a bolt facing the fender is one of the two you mentioned had to be removed however if this is the location of the bolts that hold the plate on it...
If this box were turned to it's correct position rather than laying on it's side would these two bolts be facing upward? This is a picture of the steering box currently in the car.
My old steering box had a plate on top of the gearbox held on with four bolts where I assume the adjustment can be made after the plate is removed. The new box has no visible bolts where a similar plate could be removed and only the screw/locknut to make any kind of adjustment. If an...
In a previous post A member told me to sit in the car and start it. They asked if the steering wheel turned when started where I replied no. The other day when the car was started the steering wheel did turn about one inch to the right.
It's an Autolite. Not sure of where (location it was reman.) After having it looked at closely by a red seal mechanic he stated it looks nowhere near my original 1969 box. The '69 box had four bolts on top plus the screw with locknut you could remove to make an adjustment where this new one...
