    67 Satellite 383 refresh - questions/advice

Maybe have the heads checked over? For what it cost to redo the valve job and throw some 1.74 exhaust valves in there you could likely buy a set of 440 source aluminum heads and paint them engine color. Not suggesting that if you don't want more power but food for thought. Aluminum intake...

MLS Cometic Vs Felpro 1009 with Aluminum Heads

The Fel-Pro 1009 fits the bore okay at 4.350, but just barely clears the combustion chamber without overhang with my 440 Source heads. The 8519 are sized for a larger 4.505 bore and are half the price of the 1009.

    BB Engine question

I did the 440 source on my 400, basically same block as your 383. Everything fits and bolts up like original but better flow and chamber shape as well as saving a bunch of weight. They are called stealth heads cause if you paint them the look original. You also get the hardened valve seats.

    Requesting cam choice recommendations/insight

I built a 512 using a 400 block and trick flow 240 heads and went with 440 source hyd roller with 600 lift and 3.55 gear and 28 inch tall tire. Mine is auto trans and is a very manageable combo for a street only car. Has tons of TQ and others that built the same combo had dyno numbers in the 600...

383/450 Stoker Build for Power, Longevity, and Reliability?

You'll be fine with a 451 out of a 383. More miles than you'll ever put on it. I think the basics of that Hot Rod article are fine except the compression ratio is not good for California. - 9.5 to 9.7 to 1 compression. California 91 octane is not as good as the 93 octane 49-state gas they ran...

    543 Stroker intake manifold reccomendation

I ran a 543 stroker in my Challenger. It had an Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum intake port matched to my heads. I ran 440 Source aluminum heads. Good torque, made peak HP I think at 5600 RPM and made 615 HP / 651 ft/lbs of torque on the dyno. A good "grunt" motor!

440 Source vs Hughes stroker kit

Hi guys I've decided to spend a bit of money on this dust collector I have in the shed (69 Coronet-440 6 pack). So I'm starting with the engine as it needs a full rebuild and I like either 440 source or Hughes stroker kits. I'm leaning more towards 440 source due to a lot of positive feedback...

    Hydraulic Cam suggestions

Budget wise, If the 346 heads have the original valve springs then you might want to get a set of 440 source valve springs they use on the stealth heads for $50 a set. Using a mild cam around 215 to 220 @ 0.050" makes things easier if the car is not setup with a high stall converter, also nicer...

    1971 383?

Finished, A complete number matching engine that had real low miles. Std crank, Std Bore, all housing bores measured on the money. Reused pistons, rods, same heads, same block, reused the 574 cam-had it redone at Delta Cam Tacoma. Cylinder heads completely rebuilt, new springs, valves, seats...

    Rebuilding a 400.

The major proble. I see is with your budget. I think it can be done, depending on machining costs, and how bad the heads are. Like others have said, nothing wrong with a 400 except really low compression. IQ52 has engine builds on here that overcome that, but he is a pro. Frankly, I would not...

    67 Satellite 383 refresh - questions/advice

Christmas came early! Just received the Stealth aluminum heads I ordered from 440 Source. Haven't fully unpacked and inspected them, but the sure look pretty in the box! We've been busy getting everything ready to have friends over for Easter tomorrow so progress has been a little slow. I've...

    Trick flow 240 rabbit hole

Thank you Rick, I very much enjoy and learn from you, Joe, and Ed's videos. I own a Vintage BMW motorcycle shop, and specialize in rebuilding those heads, but am ignorant on my Mopar, and really appreciate your input, and gladly will change my direction. I did 31 years in the Army, so "big...

Hello guys. Been off here for a while. No did not lose touch.

...went south with the runner for a while. First rad fan took out the radiator. Then cracked head on driver's side. Put on a set of 440 source heads. Then a partiality filter blew out. Now trying to dial the motor back in with the new 650 Holley brawler four-barrel single pumper. Back on the...

    I need 915 head advice

Unless you need to use the original iron heads, I would just get some aluminum heads, Maybe the 440 Source Stealth? They have the straight stock like spark plug locations. I don't know how manifolds fit with the Edelbrock angled plug RPM heads? With the Iron heads, the bowl area above the...

    BB Engine question

Stay away from Hughes. Their better days are behind them. If you want to retain a more stock looking head upgrade go with the 440 Source heads. If you want a better flowing head Edelbrock Performer RPM would be my choice. You'll have to be careful on a 383 with the smaller bore size using some...

    67 Satellite 383 refresh - questions/advice

Thanks. Really hoping I don't need to replace the cam. I've read too many horror stories about modern cams and lifters failing. This cam has about 35k miles on it and looks to be in good condition. I decided to go with a set of 440 Source Stealth aluminum heads instead of putting that $ into...

    head to head

Going by conventional wisdom, 2hp/1cfm, so POTENTIALLY 100hp. The chances of that happening with NO changes otherwise, are nil! EM did a test of heads on a mild 440. 906s which flow just a bit over 200cfm, verses a 440 source stealth, at around 250. The stealth were roughly 20 hp better, rpm 20...

“Video” Another Possible Hydraulic Roller Lifter Failure?

I have Morel hydraulic lifters in my 440 and I'm on my 3rd year with no problems at all. I pull the valve covers every spring and check things over. I run nothing but 5W30 or 10W30 oil. Morel recommends nothing heavier than 10W30 oil and 99% of the time I run Valvoline 10W30 VR1 oil even though...
