...to transfer the entrained heat slightly more effectively but at the cost of lower corrosion inhibitors effectiveness. A "water wetter" is nothing more than an ionic surfactant designed to reduce the inherent surface tension of water. Perhaps you could consider using "FINISH" jet dry...
Flow Koolers Rock !!
PS
Install the waterwetter from
Lucas or whom you like .
It reduces the surface tension of water , thereby increasing the flow. Try it You’ll see temp drops
Yep !
And I’m the worst skeptic ever ..
It's hard to give before and after because I've only driven the car a few times this year, and outdoor temps have changed wildly. But, now that I have an actual gauge, I'll be able to give more accurate numbers. I will say though that there has been no reduction of temps with this fan/shroud set...
Is your engine beyond the break-in period? More heat during the break-in. Had a hell of a time getting my motor running cooler; but this was appreciably higher temps than what you describe. I had read that some shrouds can impede cooling. Quite a science with desired air-flow. I found an...
...- 1.25" row, 26" aluminum radiator, flowkooler water pump, 180° t-stat, mechanical fan w factory shroud, 50/50 antifreeze w 2 bottles of waterwetter, 16lb cap, 13.7 AFR also. 120°+ outside temps, 80 on interstate w a/c on at about 186° and around 196° stop n go. Hits about 222° idling for 10...
Always in both cases. Redline WaterWetter, and either premixed 50/50 green antifreeze or distilled water.
I'll know soon if it's the fans or what I suspect-the gap between the divider plate and impeller vanes being too big.
I recently installed a smallblock WP pulley. Same depth smaller diameter. I can take pics if needed. Made a big difference. Also added the same Mancini shroud and WaterWetter. I dont go over 195 at all now in all conditions. Before I would overheat from sitting and or ildling after a while.
...Ended up using the shroud you mentioned from Jegs but thru ebay, a small block w.pump pulley (about 10% smaller od) and a bottle of waterwetter with 30/70 coolant/water an inch below full and temp now holds low 180's- mid 190's on the laser 90* outside. Shroud made all the difference, this...
...need to get that done, and since my car also sits in heated storage during winter, I'll also adjust my glycol/water ratio, and use WaterWetter. Then I'll see what happens. I run Driven 10w40 high zinc hotrod oil, as this was suggested by the engine builder. Not sure if I'll change that or...
...from. This is a freshly built (about a year old, less than 500 miles) 512 stroker. Aluminum radiator. I run distilled water and waterwetter only, no coolant. Motor runs strong, great oil pressure (70psi at cold idle). Where could this be coming from? Something I should be concerned about?
...N855 series of 6 cylinder engines....don't know if still available. Just additional food for thought.......
BTW....for those using a "water wetter", consider adding JET DRY, as used in the home dish washer....as its the same thing, an "ionic surfactant" which breaks down the waters surface...
Well after draining back the rad, and adding a bottle of WaterWetter, and more water to get the water to glycol ratio to 3/1, I then found a 2" wide firm rubber strip and secured it to the top of the shroud to fill the gap between the shroud and rad. I ran the car until the stat opened, and...
I've got an Entropy 2 row 1.25" rows aluminum in my 496. Direct drive 11 blade 19" nylon fan from 8.1 chevy truck, factory shroud, flowkooler, and 2 bottles of waterwetter w a 50/50 mix and 180 t-stat. Idles at 219° w a/c on in 123° ambient weather for 10 minutes. Cruises on highway at 186-194.
...then heat-soaking
Grant you, I have an electric 35gph water-pump & it's in an Edelbrock alum. housing
I use Purple Ice in the radiator (waterwetter type additives) & 50% antifreeze Bee-Cool
almost no heat off the rad. hoses,
from a 3 core large tube down flow, thicker custom 22" Alum...
...with an 18" fixed blade fan with all factory pulley arrangement. I run straight distilled water ( Im in southern AZ ) with a rislone waterwetter type additive. No anti freeze of any kind.
Out here,,, When its hot out, its hot. But I dont have to worry about block freeze ups . My garage isnt...
You could also try waterwetter. Just pour in radiator. I think 190-200 max for temp. Is the car hard to re start after it's running hot? Also you can change your waterpump to hv.
Posted earlier about some things I did to reduce temp. Some will disagree, but I was never a fan of a flex blade fan (there's a pun here huh). What kind of shroud was installed and how far from the rad is the fan sitting? Some aftermarket shrouds can be a problem creating a wind turbulence...
