Anyone have a tutorial on how to replace the ignition lock cylinder thingy on the column on pops' 70 GTX? The old one is worn out / busted.
I downloaded the service manual, but don't see anywhere in there that tells me how. I am guessing:
Pull steering wheel
remove blinker stuff
pull column...
Pop's has a 70 GTX 440, has started stalling weirdly, and we're wondering if it is a fuel filter issue - pops says he's not sure he's ever changed it in the 36yrs he's owned it.
It is a metal canister looking thing with not just an in and out nipple, but a little extra one that seems to go back...
Well, big boy took it to work last night, 15 miles ea way... got home and she's clattering away again.
Also it has developed a hard-to-start-when-hot issue as well. fun with old cars!
Yeah - 318 was swapped in a long time ago by who knows... Car has sat largely unused for a good couple decades, valve seals are shot, burns and leaks oil, largely neglected. Gonna change the oil and keep an eye on it. It's a throwaway engine but we'll nurse it along till he's rich and famous...
Welp, we moped for a couple days, then fired it up tonight... sounded quieter, so I said - take it for a mild cruise. He came back and glory be - it's quiet like it used to be! Woo!
We got all excited to have the 74 all running and driving well, and so the kid took off to a buddies, maybe 50 miles away. Well, anyway apparently the ol 318 was a couple quarts low (Dumb mistake I know) and now we've got some noticeable lifter rattle. DANG.
Do we get away with a cam/lifter...
