I'm the fellow that multimops mentioned. Be happy to give you my experiences with CME. Have a post in here that you may want to read about the processes I went through in choosing a motor and builder and why I elected not to do it myself.
Contact me if you are really serious.
...advance of the glaciers. If the deep ocean currents changed only a little bit, Northern Europe would be wiped out. If there was a super large CME from our sun, the global electrical environment would be destroyed instantly. Everything. Guess what would happen next? We live in such a fragile...
Well said, and it's the truth !
We can sell 440's as fast as we can build them, and that's only as fast as we can acquire and PASS a good core to work with beforehand ! (tougher and tougher each year)
and I still get 5-10 calls a month for the "lowly 440" series builds we did and posted the Dyno...
If Carolina Motors is CME or Caroloina Machine Engine, I recomend you reconsider having them on your list at all. Search for engine build nightmare and you see my story.
Timing is my first thought with the "puff" out of the carb. Fuel pressure seems high.
Good advice in a number of replies here.
Re: CME who I assume built the engine, I am looking hard at using them, so PM sent.
...and getting it back together with the Procharger set up.
We tore the engine apart yesterday and were pleasantly surprised to learn CME Crate Motors were true to their word of using good quality internals. Nice h beam rods, Icon pistons, clevite bearings. Crank looked great. I have little...
I am assuming that the CME 522 HYRDGOON mentioned was around $11,000, if it was a complete engine, plus shipping. That's a chunk of change, eh? You might look for ragged-out motorhomes or Newports with 440s as a start. Here are a couple of articles on 440 builds...
Thanks! My birth year is 1969; my Coronet's birth year is 1968
I've looked at Carolina Machine Engines, Napa Ironclad, Jasper and a few others online and most stated they magnaflux the block to check for imperfections which could lead me to believe they are a 60s/70s period block. Jasper got...
So I checked craigslist and found I would want to buy a fairly built 440, and for my price range I wasn't impressed with what I found...then i checked crate engines. I looked at the CME 522 thanks to guys on this forum, but that was beyond my budget.
...area. I bought from Carolina Machine Engines and shipped here. Was a 522 Stroker 525hp/625Torque (actually dyno'd at 530/660)
CME was relatively easy to deal with despite doubling the expected wait time which I expected. I've now completely changed my plans and am procharging that 522...
I've been debating buying a block and building or buying one of their motors. I'm assuming you've been very happy with the motor? How about the customer service?
