I would only end up driving in the rain if I was caught in it. I do keep it garaged but it is humid here in Houston and I assume that would cause moister build up. Not entirely clear on the condensation science.

Did you need to use any primer on the glass or metal for the rope?

I agree, so the consensus is the butyl Rope would be sufficient to use.
