To stretch the spring prior to installing a floor jack is the tool of choice, hook one end on the cup, the other to the front axle, stretch it a little & stick in the washers......
Pedal on the floor is the shortest distance so the easiest position to attach the spring...

I ported heads til I couldn't stand the heat anymore. I took daughter out for dinner came home and it had cooled off, put in 2 hours more on the heads. Was up til3 am last night and up at 7:30 this morning, I'm beat.

I don’t mind critters. I hate the wild turkeys, opossum aren’t bad the eat ticks and are pretty easy to move. I pick them up like a cat and take them out to center of section let them go.
Do you know where it’s supposed to be hooked up? If not first place to check is at the base of your carburetor usually in the front. Also I would think if it came disconnected your car would have a vacuum leak and be running rough at idle.
Welcome... I guess. "Won't turn over" ok.... turn the key and... WHAT HAPPENS ? Engine locked ? Cranks but no fire ? My question is: Do you have heat saturation in the starter cable ?
AR67GTX - I couldn't have explained my old issue any better. You're experiencing EXACTLY what I did. Then I removed the OC spring and HOLY SH*T, the pedal is a bitch to press. Wished I left it in there.

A tip. Check your repair the next day. Maybe check tightness tension. Don't hesitate to ask for advice. The only dumb question is the one not asked. Get a FSM, it will give you diagrams of all you need to know.
Update:
Have not had alot of time to work on the HENRY'S Dart. Made some time today. Car would crank if the starter relay was jumped. But not with the key. Pulled the yellow wire off the starter relay and the wire fell out of the connector. Put a new connector on, and still no 12v to to starter...
