Yes the builder messed up and put the pistons in the wrong spot. I've seen this before. But never all 8. As for the rod side clearance? My bet is it has a turned down 440 crank to a 2.200" chevy journal. Mopar rods are .025" wider than a Chevy rod. So the side clearance will gain .050" per pair...
More for looks than function. If you place it far enough back to see it well, you can't adjust it to get a good view. Too far forward and you are looking through the vent frame besides, it looks bad that far forward.
Electricians have these black grommets that come apart. I got one from an electrician friend years ago. Worked very well. Might be able to reconstruct what I did.

Just a simple suggestion. Go to someplace that can do shoe modifications build the soles up on both. Move your seat back far enough and your mirror will work better for you. Or add blocks to the pedals.
