So, a while back I upgraded my 67 Belvedere to HEI, and this weekend I'll finally get around to pulling the harness and removing all the unused wires from the old ignition. I've also been reading up on ammeter/bulkhead bypass and figure this would be a good time. Seems like there's a lot of...
What I do is 1- bypass the ammeter and convert to a voltmeter. 2-Install a one wire alternator and a power feed like this direct to the battery. https://www.painlessperformance.com/wc/30700 3-Install headlamp relays to eliminate headlamp draw through the car harness. 4-Either replace your old...
I converted mine to MSD atomic in 2015.
The atomic is connected directly to the battery. Atomic has the ability to do pulse width modulation on the fuel pump which helps a bit with noise and power draw.
I have electric fans as well (3) and my alternator goes through the ammeter.
I haven't had...
What was the solution? I attached my EFI to the drivers side of the Ballast, until I find a better location. I also need a separate location for the EFI Ignition.
I also converted my Alt to a Volts gauge and was going to connect it to the back of the fuse box to a switched connection, since I...
bypass or parallel paths....a circuit cannot be bypassed and at the same time parallel (to what?)..be descriptive in terms of drawings, photographs and calculations to prove your point. The alt able to source 45-55 amps at iddle.....first, iddle is not a word and means nothing. The...
I purchased a 4 light harness for my 72 Satty and couldn't be happier. I am running a wire from the alternator to the starter lug (ammeter bypass) so my harness was custom. Harness was very well made. Install was straight forward. I did have a question about my install because the instructions...
Molested to me is these and calling it a “restoration”

FOR SURE!!! He took the time to do it right! I've re-wired a lotta MoPars over the years, most owners that have the money don't wanna deal with it. Wondering what brand that dash harness is? Doesnt look like an M&H. Great lookin "Birdie"! And looks like he KEPT the AMMETER!! Big Kudos to the...
just adding info... this would be the TIPICAL ammeter external shunt wire diagram. Some cars got some other splices to feed around some other devices, but this would be the tipical basic configuration.
As everybody can see, STILL on these ammeters setup, EVERYTHING is still feeded from the alt...
I guess I didn't need "pretty much." It's all stock, from what I know. For example, I don't know for sure that the ignition switch has never been replaced. I got the car in 1988. It might have had some changes from 1972-88. But the alternator, the MAD ammeter bypass and the headlight relays are...
Thanks Bob. The MAD ammeter bypass was done as described on their website. I got the headlight relay and wiring from FBBO member Crackedback, who sells them. I got the Powermaster 95 amp alternator because my stock alternator died. It's a two-wire squareback style. My multimeter isn't a Harbor...
Original was 68 rr with ac. This one is 70 RR 383 bone stock. Have replaced or replacing all harnesses. Thanks again!!!
Updated to put in the listing of current car. Got it from another member after a lot of negotiation back and forth. Great member!

I put in a new Powermaster 95 amp alternator and was advised to replace my old electromechanical VR to a new solid state one. I did that, but first, checked my voltage at the battery with the old one. I got 14.6 volts while running. Replaced with the new VR and now get 12.9 volts at the battery...
I thought I said you could if you chose to but that is not what I would do. Can you leave all the OEM wiring in place, sure. Not what I would do. I dislike ammeters, never run them, nor leave them connected in any car I have. My usual comment regarding the OEM charge path is leave it all in...
Again, thinking out loud.....
Since you are using a "square back alternator" with a 2 wire field supply, the blue wire at the alternator is connected to the switched power of the ignition circuit, as the FSM calls "the #1 splice", it also furnishes the voltage regulator the system's reference...
Yes, Ehrenburg's article talks about how fleet vehicles had a factory Chrysler bulkhead bypass, eliminating the trouble spots, which he shows some photos of but then he goes into this:
4. To straighten out the wiring problem permanently,
you need some decent supplies. A few feet of...
I also agree....more info is needed, along with pix and possibly a hand drawn schematic diagram. Please explain the details of the MAD amp meter bypass and how did you source the headlight relay modifications. And WHY did you change to a 95 amp Powermaster alternator? Was it the single...
Thanks Leo. Everything is pretty much stock except an aftermarket 95 amp Powermaster alternator. I also did the MAD ammeter bypass and installed a headlight relay. I was at 15.5 volts before, and after cleaning connections and redoing some wiring crimps, etc.., I've gotten it down to 14.95. For...
