You should be able to find oversized drain plugs that will self tap into the pan. Like Triplegreen said find one with a magnet on it.

If you do get that cam from Summit you should confirm that the 318 has at least a 9:1 compression.

Going to a 340 or 360 head requires more than just putting the heads on it. Because of the chamber volume and port size on the 340/360 heads it will drop the compression ratio on your 318 by 1 point! So if you have a 8.5:1 now, it will have a measly 7.5:1 with the other heads on it.....not...

Get the one from Year One, it should work just fine. You'll need the extra length as the one end goes into the bell housing beside the starter. Here's a pic of mine but FYI the location on the bell housing is WRONG - It has since been relocated to the correct location.

You say the block has a deck clearance of 0.005" - was the block zero decked? Factory blocks had quite a bit of deck in them, typically around 0.090"
