I always draw a line across the outer ring to the hub center with a Sharpe. If the outer ring slips, it's would be pretty easy to check.

My engine was not running. This happened 2 or three years ago, but I somehow reversed + and - when testing with jumpers to a battery. All new wiring harnesses and it popped the fusible link. I am not an electrical guy, so if you say something else caused it, maybe so.
