I've used masking tape in some cases to protect the paint when installing emblems, trim, ect.

A cool trick is to use a soldering iron to make bolt holes in the carpet like seats, seat belts. It will melt the carpet and you won't have any loose strands.
Been years since looking at a NHRA rule book but back then, the only requirement for in the car gauges was for a fuel gauge. You COULD NOT run a fuel psi line into the car at all. The gauge had to be electric. Never had any tech tell me that I couldn't run a nylon oil psi tube into the car...
