It is very true. Don’t know at what diameter it starts to really make a difference. I would measure the trunk well to see what tire will fit .

With the tire mounted on the car the measurement will be less. Width of rim will also change the measurement slightly. I don't think on our 50 plus year old cars that it will ever be exact. Metric sizes won't match the old sizes exactly either. There were calibrated speedometer's on police cars...

My friend has those wheels on his 71 Charger R/T, I don't know the tire sizes though.

The difference between a 225/70 - 14 and a 245/60 - 14 isn't huge. ( 26.5"/2 ) - ( 25.6"/2 ) = 0.45" Or approximately 3% shorter

Yes enter in a tire you know fits the car then experiment with other sizes and rim diameters to get what you need.

No idea on backspacing ... but sizes are 255/60 R15 rear and 205/65 R15 up front

The sizes I have are as stated. I did a google search on the P275/60 R16 tire and looked through a catalog I had. It’s going to be a challenge to get that tire size as time goes on.
