"Doing VINS" shouldn't be acceptable anywhere in this hobby. If by "doing" you mean swapping. Removing, restoring and replacing is another story and perfectly acceptable.

My experience is that the shops often don't use the correct glue, or not enough or ignore cure times. I had my most recent top put on by a marine upholstry shop. They put reference tape on the front and back glass to align the seams. I did the trim when I got the car home.

I already removed the ring gear from the converter. Only one tooth needs to be repaired. I’ll weld it up and file it. The ring gear isn’t hardened like the starter gear is. Been done many times. Just thought I’d ask if anyone knew of a source for a replacement ring.

It turns out the person selling it does not want to ship it so it's out of the question now. I think I will just go with my first thought and that was do a Pertronix Ignitor 2 conversion. Thanks Bruce
