The 64 floorshift/65 rooster comb, shift cable, manual valve, and safety switch are not correct for a push button trans. They need to be swapped for 62-64 push button parts. A 62-64 valve body will function correctly in a 65 trans using the push buttons. Take a good look. What style valve body...
We had this issue recently. Messed up the KD band and the forward clutch. Reseal the servo. May need to be honed. It'll leak a little, very little when correct.

The thick seal fits an early 62-71 piston. The thin seal is 72 and up. Air check it on the bench with the pump face down and just the forward drum installed on it. For front clutch clearance in HP use .015" x the number of frictions is a good number. How do the sides of the reaction shaft rings...
Being its a push button my bet is the shift cable is either adjusted wrong. Or the neutral safety switch is contacting the rooster comb. On a 1/2 shift the only action that occurs (with a T/A valve body) is the KD band applies and the low roller overruns. If the low roller was damaged the...
The outer front seal is tricky. It’s hidden and not accessible with any tool. Gentle compression of the piston using Vaseline and 3 C clamps or C clamp vice grips is the key. A turn at a time going around in rotation will seat it. The thinner late model seal is easier and will fit either piston...
You are on the right track. If the front clutch application is slow, a sloppy 2/3 shift will occur. Either the fluid volume is delayed by a sticky valve or there is an internal leak. Since the valve body has already been removed, start there first. A call to Trans Go’s tech department is a good...
The Pontiac head wasn't superior at the time. For sure the block lifter bores were weaker. So why did they win? Aero, cheater cubes? Certainly a SD Pontiac head didn't match a Max Wedge head. Neither did a FE or a 409. So why were the the Max Wedges slower?

Difference between 415hp and the 425hp is the compression ratio. 11.0-1 vs 13.5-1. Cam is also larger on the later (63 /64) engines with no change in hp rating. The single 4 barrel Max Wedge was never sold in a car. Those manifolds were for Nascar's single 4 barrel rule.

Only reason I knew? Made the mistake of grabbing a pair that looked nice out of my stash. Blasted, painted and installed them when building my 64. Then realized the shocks wouldn’t bolt up. Then found the stamping lettering.

Make sure the tank is well vented. My mild 360 Challenger runs the stock fuel system with the exception a bolt together mechanical fuel pump. Has run 12.70@107 in street trim. Never an issue with fuel delivery in any temperature. Same combo 21 years.

A gear will wake it up. Granted the 318 has a small bore, and is a short stroke. My bet not much over 9.0-1. Yours is fitted with healthy heads, intake, decent cam, and carb. It needs gear to make up for the loss in torque. A 4.10 is what it needs. My bet is easy low 14 second car, maybe even...
I’ve done quite a few on the car spring installs. Everyone gets measured and adjusted +/- .005” using a combo of .015”, .030”, and if necessary.060”. Make sure you have a selection of the correct shims that fit your guide diameter. Make sure the retainers are correct for the new springs. Make...
I have to agree with Dwayne that if the relief valve is completly bottomed I've seen close to 200psi. Install the cup backwards in a small block and see what happens. My belief is that some oil is always bypassing. But by the time that there is a spring that holds the valve that far bottomed...
If the valve was stuck pressure would be low all the time. The spring has nothing to do with idle pressure. There isn’t enough flow at idle to create any resistance. Thus the bypass is shut. If idle pressure is low there are 4 cures. Thicker oil, lower oil temp, higher volume pump, less internal...
