Dented oil pan going over raised manhole cover. Immediate replacement or can it wait until winter?

Super helpful to visually be able to see it. I think I just need to sleep on it and tackle it in the morning. I took a few more pictures but between trying to hold something flat against it (to see how bent it is) and take a picture I think I’m actually making it look worse than it is.

Dented oil pan going over raised manhole cover. Immediate replacement or can it wait until winter?

Thanks for this! Made me realize I could also fit my borescope in there to get a clear view of what the oil pickup looks like and the clearance it has from the pan bottom

Dented oil pan going over raised manhole cover. Immediate replacement or can it wait until winter?

Thanks Don. Looking at the last picture I just realized I can see the flywheel. Totally separate question but Is that normal? I feel like I shouldn’t be able to see that. I somehow hadn’t noticed that before while being under the car

Dented oil pan going over raised manhole cover. Immediate replacement or can it wait until winter?

DOT is tearing up the road near my house. Slowly drove over a slightly raised man hole cover and it hit my oil pan. No leaks so far. I didn’t lose oil pressure and everything seems fine. This is my first time being dumb enough to do this. Should have just driven around it. Do you typically...

1972 RR 440 won’t start after running fine. Battery and fuses seem good. Replaced alternator, voltage regulator and ballast resistor. Any ideas?

Just wanted to close this out. Turned out to be the simplest thing possible. After replacing the alternator, ignition coil, checking every ground I could find and messing with the starter…it was the battery terminal connector. The positive terminal connector was loose where it connects to the...

1972 RR 440 won’t start after running fine. Battery and fuses seem good. Replaced alternator, voltage regulator and ballast resistor. Any ideas?

Agreed. When it started with a jump but died when I disconnected the battery jumper I figured it was the alternator. The alternator read as 0 with my multimeter and the battery read fine. Figured changing the alternator was something inexpensive to start with and it was already very old. But...

1972 RR 440 won’t start after running fine. Battery and fuses seem good. Replaced alternator, voltage regulator and ballast resistor. Any ideas?

So that’s what it was doing before replacing the alternator. It now won’t even crank when connected to the battery charger.

1972 RR 440 won’t start after running fine. Battery and fuses seem good. Replaced alternator, voltage regulator and ballast resistor. Any ideas?

So one I took some pictures of the original alternator so I would make sure and then labeled each wire with painters tape. I unfortunately have made that mistake one too many times. I’m fairly certain they are in the right spots. This alternator does have an additional stud where the original...

1972 RR 440 won’t start after running fine. Battery and fuses seem good. Replaced alternator, voltage regulator and ballast resistor. Any ideas?

Thanks! Is there a way to check that or just replace with new? I’m a little newer when it comes to working on cars. Is the coil your referring to circled in yellow below or is there a coil under the distributor cap?

1972 RR 440 won’t start after running fine. Battery and fuses seem good. Replaced alternator, voltage regulator and ballast resistor. Any ideas?

I had never noticed that green button before. I’m not sure what it does. Looks like it runs through the firewall near the brake pedal…does it look like speaker wire? I don’t see it coming out in the engine bay. I know this funky wiring isn’t helping my case but it did run quite well for the...

1972 RR 440 won’t start after running fine. Battery and fuses seem good. Replaced alternator, voltage regulator and ballast resistor. Any ideas?

So that wire was frayed and I had to put a new connector on it. I thought maybe that was my original problem. From the pictures below is there a chance I installed it wrong? It seemed pretty straightforward.

1972 RR 440 won’t start after running fine. Battery and fuses seem good. Replaced alternator, voltage regulator and ballast resistor. Any ideas?

So I drive it once a week for a few hours throughout the summer. Just recently pulled into a gas station, filled up and then went to start with no luck. There was only a single click and then nothing. Hooked my battery jumper up and it started after a few tries. Second the jumper disconnected...

Which alternator do I want for my 72 440?

Thanks for all the good info! Just went over all the grounds I could find and fuses. I think I’ll replace my voltage regulator just for the heck of it. Noticed this wire connecting to the alternator was hanging on by a thread….cant seem to find or remember the exact name of what it’s called so...

Which alternator do I want for my 72 440?

Thanks! I guess I’m just trying to figure out what alternator was on the car or if it was modified (heavy duty?). Car ran great right up until it died.

Which alternator do I want for my 72 440?

So my alternator is dead. I believe the 440 is out of a 75 motorhome. Anyways it has what looks like a 2 V groove pulley on it with only one belt attached. Is that the right alternator setup for this? I see they sell ones with 1 groove pulley too.

Best way to get these square nuts out to pull my front bench seat?

Is there anything under the vehicle I also need to take out? Any tools designed for it or am I just going to scratch this all up with a pair of pliers? It seems like there a rubber gaskets on the bottom of the car that maybe pop out to expose a bolt. Just having trouble getting them off.

Ideas on how to get this build sheet out of my 68 Galaxie bench seat without removing the seat?

I know this isn’t mopar related but I have a new to me 68 Galaxie. Managed to buy it from the original owner who had the window sticker still. Figured I’d take a look for the build sheet and there it is untouched. It is super fragile. Ripped with me just touching it. Is there anyway to get it...

Just pulled the spark plugs in my new to me 440 and they are not the same size as the ones I got to replace them. What are the chances?

Car runs great now everyone! Thank you. Still trying to figuring out why the one plug was gunked up but I’m sure being the wrong plug could’ve contributed to it. The engine does need a good cleaning but it looks a little worse in the pictures since I caked everything with penetrating oil trying...

72 440 Road Runner. Backfire/Popping only when foot is off gas and coasting.

just wanted to close this out. After getting the old gas out, added some seafoam, replaced a loose battery terminal and changed the fuel filter it was still popping. Previous owner told me he changed the driver side spark plugs but not the passenger side because he couldn’t get to it. I pulled...

Thanks so much for help and explanation! If I do go with the RV12YC do you recommend gapping them at .035? Looks like they come pre-gapped at .04: CHAMPION 406 Spark Plug | Shop Now at RockAuto
