Oil drainback....Do all Mopar V8s drain oil back through the lifter valley or are the holes in the block?

Oil has to go somewhere. Take a look at what you're looking at.

    Oil leak at times

Hi everyone I have a question about the 4 holes on the back of the motor mainly the 2 hole on the left and right of the crank. So when I am running my engine at idle does great 50 psi of oil pressure then if I give a bit of rpm oil will start to come out of the bell hosing I am wondering where...

440 6 Pack squealing noise only when completely warmed up

How about a squealing bypass valve inside the oil filter? Change the filter and see what happens. That's all I got...except... I suppose an oil pump pressure relief valve could squeal (broken/weak spring), but I don't know if you would see pressure pulsations on a gauge tee-d in at the sensor unit.

    1968 Plymouth GTX

The oil pan was pretty dented up but a new one is $200 so I decided to knock the dents out and repaint it. Then I discovered it's not technically correct for my car. It's a 187 oil pan, where from what I read the '68-'69 440s came with a 402 oil pan. Since my car is not numbers matching (the...

    Best oil for 440.....

Imo, Penzoil was one of them that was a junk oil. Used to change my oil quite often since I was drag racing my one and only driver. One day I was checking out a lifter tick and pulled off a valve cover and it had gunge streaks in it already.

1969 383 oil pressure sending unit

Hi Im just wondering what is the correct oil pressure sending units for a stock 1969 383 4 spd car. I took a snip of this on the forum and posting it. The top image is what I had on the car. Dont know if the dash board cluster matters or not. I have non rally dash in roadrunner I thought he...

    Thermostat brown.

That color of muck can also come from oil in the coolant. Double check those dipsticks for any foreign residue. I don't know what kind of antifreeze you used but in an old car that has had Ethelene glycol in it all it's life, that's what I would use. (the old green stuff)

Oil filter too close to headers???

I was doing some work on my 318 and came to the realization of how close the oil filter is to the passenger side header. By logic I would think that this may be heating up the oil beyond what it should be. Would this result in oil pressure drop? I have noticed on long runs on the highway it...

400 Stroker Rebuild Sounds Like a Bucket of Bolts

So, we have come full circle, if side clearance has no oil pressure related concerns here, what exactly is/was the problem with the side clearance mentioned in this motor, other than it was not the norm? Regardless, there does seem to be a solid consensus from my readings on side clearance/oil...

    Oil pump question

That is just not true. You have to put it in proper context. An example of high oil pressure is the added significant stress on the oil pump drive. For those that have experienced pump drive failure know what I am talking about. Again - as long as you have oil film additional oil pressure...

Fresh premium and nothing but Stihl oil for me. Sure they don't make oil, but why guess what is right for the saw for the bit that you use?

    LA 318 Lifter Replacement/Recondition

What does low mileage mean? 30,000 on an original engine?or 2000 miles on a rebuilt engine? The age could have hardened oil inside lifters. Yes take them apart and clean. Wont hurt them. They need to go back together with same internals, ans on the same cam lobe, don't mix them. Pre oil...

    Dirty oil

Reading your post I was wondering what the shop was doing to your car. Sounds like you had several issues after the shop worked on it. Did they do the install and initial setup? Or just an oil change and screw up your car? Any shop that works on these cars better know what they are doing...

    Oil Sensor Gauge type testing

Now that I have my Dash all restored and calibrated I am going through the sensors to validate each plus the wiring. I have the Temp sensor all squared away plus its wiring resistance checked. Now am on the Oil Sensor. Wiring and ground are testing good but sensor is a bit erratic. Current...

    Front sump pan,440

Low oil pressure on a hot engine at idle is a pretty common indicator of wear, but nothing to be concerned about, unless you're expecting a freshly rebuilt engine. By 2000 RPM, I want to see it up there in the >60# area, but we can only work with what we have. I've got 440 HP that only hits...

Does this look like higher capacity pan?

What I remember about the episode was a conclusion that oil flow is more critical than oil capacity.

First time changing oil on 318 and headers are in the way of new oil filter. Any idea of what alternative oil filter can fit it?

The oil filter that came off was a carquest R85085 and is about 3 1/4” tall. No idea what engine it’s supposed to fit but I guess it was running on this 318 for awhile. I bought a wix 51515 and is roughly 5” tall. This filter is hitting the headers and I’m unable to spin it on. Didn’t know if...
