    What to expect from 1970 383 HP

    Were the JE pistons custom, and if they were, how much did they run you and did you order any trick deals with em, or just pretty standard pistons? Also did you use a roller or flat tappet cam?

    It should be ok. They can be removed by having bronze guides installed. The cut all that old guide out usually and press in the new bronze guides. How loose are the valves in the guides? A new set of trick flows or 440 source heads would solve the problem permanently.

    The Fel-Pro 1009 fits the bore okay at 4.350, but just barely clears the combustion chamber without overhang with my 440 Source heads. The 8519 are sized for a larger 4.505 bore and are half the price of the 1009.

    I'd calculate the compression ratio (requires measurements) for both the 906s, and some 440 source stealth heads. TF are real nice, not necessary for a driver. I'd probably not put any money into 906s. If it's too high for pump gas, I'd wack off the domes (assuming solid dome) and rebalance...

    BB Engine question

    I did the 440 source on my 400, basically same block as your 383. Everything fits and bolts up like original but better flow and chamber shape as well as saving a bunch of weight. They are called stealth heads cause if you paint them the look original. You also get the hardened valve seats.
